My vote is for Fl studio been using it for 6 Years i like the ease of use and the pure depth of it still learning new things every time i use it, i will say i do enjoy using ableton also but it never lets me get anything done.

Yes i have done that. And i also thought i heard a differance. But i saved the files named them x.f.g etc. so i couldn´t remember wich one who was from that particular DAW.
And then i came back the some days later and could hear absolutely no difference whatsoever.
Have you heard of the word placebo effect?

    Guitarmaniac64,

Don't try to convince those who believes their ears instead of their brain.
It's as useless (and risky) as trying to change people's views about politics, religion or... soccer.

i'd really like to keep this thread objective... otherwise, what's the point?

I'm on Cubase, and i'm almost happy... what i don't like about Cubase, is that routine in this program takes more time than it should.

ProTools and Cubase is the first choice in some top studios... it's the choice of Hans Zimmer, for example.

By Reason as a choice on the poll, does it actually refer to Record? Also, noticed Presonus Studio One wasn't a choice, wondering how many people have used it and general thoughts on it. I tried it and nothing really stood out to differentiate it one way or another, kind of reminded me of Sonar X1 and Reaper.

well first what do you mean by record?...record midi instruments or having mics set up like for a sax, bass or guitar....

anyway, what's so difficult about it? no matter what DAW you use it's always the same...
arm the track, choose whether you want count in or not...press record and record the damn track!

I recorded a shitload of stuff with cubase or now sonar (and all the others to try em out)

basically recording is a lot more reliant on your audio interface that your DAW....what's your point here?

Me too. So please let me finish objectively on this "audio engines' myth" subject with concrete evidences.

Thanks to "placebo-convinced" guys, there are some others (much more clever) who can sell totally useless 'scam' equipment like this Nordost Odin Supreme Reference AC power cable for...
    £ 20,495.00 !!! :

    http://www.highendcable.co.uk/Nordost%20ODIN%20Power%20Cords.htm

Let's see what Ethan Winer think about those equipments in his legendary "Audio Myths Workshop" video (starting @ 12:18 - but don't hesitate to watch the whole program, it's a gem) :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYTlN6wjcvQ

To conclude on the subject, here is another very interesting article written this time by an Image-Line's employee :

    http://flstudio.image-line.com/help/html/app_audio.htm

Mr. suchenderxxx will argue for sure that the employee was payed by Image-Line, and he will be right : in fact, there is a secret conspiracy between all companies : they're paying their employees to proclaim that "every daw sounds the same" :lmao:

Another thing to note is crooss DAW projects and remembering to adjust the panning settings accordingly between DAW's, or any eq compression adjustments won't be accurate. I bounce back and forth between Cubase 5 and live 8 and set up templates ages ago reflecting not only panning settings but any other differences there might be!!!. As for differences between 'Audio engines' I'm no expert but is digital sound and A/D conversion not all 1's and 0's and all that????? :dunno:

I really like cubase but i'm left perplexed by Steinberg...being the inventor of VSTs I wonder "how come?", ...the bridge in cubase is one
of the finest piece of crap they have ever crafted! if you only use 32bits plug-ins ofc u dont care ...but 64bits is the future... they
should get that fixed straight away...reaper, just to name it, is cheap and yet it works damn fine!

yep that's quite true, the way the audio engine handles panning is different, especially in the center, there are apparently different algorithm...but i dont know much about em, if anyone has info that would be handy

I started with cubasis years and years ago, stayed with Steinberg up to Nuendo over the years and made a test / decision last year.
For me as most of my instruments come from vstis, the test was playing the same vsti with the same sound with the same midi, dry, same resolution of course. I also load a audio file to the other.
I compared Nuendo 4, abelton 7 and samplitude 11. Samplitude has the best sound to my ears, so I changed from Nuendo to samplitude few month ago completely but still have Nuendo in the back.
At the moment I have most problems to get into the slight different work flow that samplitude has compared to steinberg but I'll get comfortable with each production.

I know two ways of panning, one uses only power varriation. Means if you move a signal to the left, out of the center the right channel has a more and more reduced power / level. In the center left and right have the same level.

A second but near never used but a more natural attempt is a combination of power and delay. If a signal comes from the left the right ear recognize it with a delay of some ms. This way is very expensive to build in hardware as each stereo channel need a delay unit, so we mostly find the equal power panning in soft and hardware.
