The first 3 months are all "wow, that's so spicy, sexy and exciting" until you realise it's not an act they put on to make themselves appear more desirable or some hormonal phase, but that your partner is actually mentally ill. I begged my partner of 6 years to go to therapy and take meds for her (diagnosed) bipolar for years. She'd get better, then worse, then better, then only worse and worse. Eventually she did go, but decided to quit 3 sessions in.

"I'm not doing this anymore, I don't need treatment, my bipolar is actually my super power."

That was the last straw for me - and her. She had changed so much, the original "her" would rarely surface anymore.

 

Thank you for sharing your story with us. When I was young there were hardly any mental disorders, so something must have happened between then and now.

I think we should analyse the causes more closely in order to be able to tackle the root cause. Or to protect ourselves from other mentally disturbed people. In Germany, where I live, we have a rapid increase in stabbings and many young people are totally freaking out.

The theory is that they grew up with so much to offer and never had to solve any problems, their parents took care of everything. Now that they are adults and problems arise, they cannot solve them. The smartphones were the last straw.

bipolar and related illness is a vicious thing. Its really really tough to deal with. Ive seen family's torn apart from one member in a state of mania. Violent and abusive outbursts, and constant self harm in some form or another. Endangering themselves and others. Its scary. I feel for them, and do my best to help or encourage them to seek help, but keep my distance at the same time.

I think its less that these disorders were less common or didn't exist, and more so that they did not have the proper diagnoses. Butttt, at the same time you are correct, there is a big change in society since internet culture and iphones became the norm. There is a huge uptick in the amount of people being diagnosed with these sort of disorders, and many of them are being fed insane amounts of mind altering drugs. We definitely need a worldwide shift, a change in our relationship with technology, and how we view the world and our fellow humans.

 

the "analog" synths are fine, but if you let her get you a reel-to-reel tape machine you will have to hide all the razor blades.

 

Anyone who has experienced an interesting life, has a story just like this of getting involved with someone jealously toxic who seems to offer you something that closely resembles a deal with the devil to stay and not leave them. Retrospectively, it makes us understand that the best things we got out of life were based on the decisions we made for ourselves. I got Deja Vu from your post. There are other experiences where the person is told under no circumstances to take recreational drugs or alcohol while on Bi-polar treatment. More on treatment seem to ignore this than this who listen. Violence is an easily triggered result. You got out. Some people didn't fast enough. It is horrible.

Love isn't blind, I think it's deaf. Deaf to the sound advice of friends and people who love you telling you to get out of there. It would be funny if the results weren't serious.

On paper, smart. In reality, create a child not born of love which is unfair to the child, and a Child support bill for the next 18 years. Not to forget, if the split is ugly, you may have to fight just to get to know the child until the child is old enough to bypass the other parent.

Yeah, no, don't. Good luck finding calibration tapes. After you got some shady copies of a copy of a calibration tape or paid 4 synths the price for an og one - you are going to sit down with the oscilloscope every now and then to keep it in specs. After a while you're going to stop calibrating it and a little later you stop using it all together.

Yes I can understand why you said that. Keep in mind that some people who have had really horrible experiences can happily do without ever entering anything serious ever again by choice, rather than being unable to find someone. They basically deny themselves that additional potential happiness out of a greater need to feel safe. Basically, they were damaged and allowed themselves to become permanently scarred.
