Hi,
I downloaded Kontakt 8 portable from the sister site. I followed all the steps of the installer and when I tried to open it in standalone, it gives me the following error:



Also, when I try to open it inside Cubase 10, I hear an annoying noise and the VST won't open either.

I tried it with all the portable versions I found:
_Kontakt 8 v8.1.0 Portable-vkDanilov ;
_Kontakt Portable 8 v8.0.1 WiN-vkDanilov Rev2
_Kontakt Portable 8 v8.0.1 WiN-vkDanilov.

Always the same error.

I have kontakt 6 and kontakt 7 (vkDanilov portable) installed and they work like a charm but I need version 8 for some libraries that I want to try


Did anyone have the same problem? What am I doing wrong?

I'm on windows 10, Cubase 10 pro, AMD Ryzen 7 1700 Eight-core Processor, 64 GB Ram, 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor. I do not access to internet in that Computer.

Also I wonder which versois of windows you use. I use win 10 enterprise ltsc iot and wondered if it was related to that

I just solved it (approximately 10 minutes ago) by installing the Kontakt 8 v8.2.1 PORTABLE version (and then running the "back to win 7") that I found on the sister site and I received your notification, hahaha
I feel like it's my birthday, I'm celebrating!!

I still haven't been able to solve the problem you're telling me about because I'm transferring 200 GB of libraries to the disk that I couldn't use until now.
But I read on the sister site that it could be solved in the following way, I quote:

"This worked for last Portable for me:
For anyone having difficulty remembering your last view try this:
Go to File>Options...Interface and uncheck/untick (get rid of the white box) for "Show fullscreen library browser when launching new empty Kontakt instances"
Click LIBRARY (at top in between FILE and VIEW) to see your required view
and then click View> Set View Settings As Default and should work OK on next relaunch.

What do you mean with 'swtichable'? You mean a graphics card that is not onboard? I have a geforce RTX 2060 SUPER

 

So when you open that video and go to advanced power options, you do see these same amount plan options as teh guy in the video? I only have about 10 of these settings he has and do not have the one he is changing? (my videocard is geforce RTX 2060 super - no idea if that is 'switchable"? - I assume he means if its onboard and its not?)

I ask this becuase I am curious to what degree the windows version we have (win 10 enterprise ltsc iot) is resposible for some issues I experience on my last computer(s). Sinec hardly anyone I know uses that version of windows and my version of cuabse, sometimes its hard to guess. In theory it's quite an ideal OS as it comes without crap, but some things are harder to install on it. For exmaple I tried to install some AI stuff o it a while ago and no matter what i tried, Phyton wouldnt just install normally on it (the Ai required phyton). At least as far as I rmemeber it was an AI. I just remebred something neede Phyton installed. I asked my AI chatbot if installing phyton on windows IOT is more a challenge, and it said it could be..

Also sometimes its unclear if software is supporting it , like windows 8 as it seems its not mentioned it's supported or not uspported, since it is not really meant as desktop OS.

 

Ah thanks! That indeed seems to solve the issue that it was not showing me the legacy look. I I had the complete opposite boxed 'ticket' (made dark grey/white). Ill save this picture for next install!

it apparently found some correupted files and repaired them using CMD in admin mode

I also installed the Vc-redistrubutable you gave succesfully . I usually have this installed on my wnidows, but as it seems to be needed by quite some software, but I am on a relatively fresh windows install, so mabybe I just didnt install software that asked for it.

Like I said, I do not know what you maen by switchable. But, yeah I had seen that video too as I was searching for error code 1114 in google. I tried going to these advanced power settings, but the problem I have there is that I do not have the option for 'switchable dynamic graphcis' in the location the guy has them in the video. The guy in the video as a whole has as a much longer list with options than i have. He seems to have about 16 things in the list whereas I have about only 10. I am not sure if that has to do with the somewhat uncommon windows 10 enterprise LTSC IOT version that i am using, or if it has to do with my hardware. Since the other guy here that has/had a similar problem (lungan Toto) has a similar version of windows he says, then I assume maybe it's not the windows version that makes me have limited options there. However, maybe its a combination of things? I have no clue. I'm not that knowledgeable about such stuff unfortunately!

I then found some other website or video online said that the same might be achieved by going to nvidia control panel I could also set some setting there different (or high or higher). However, this was before your suggestions and none of these things (so before your suggestions) helped.

Ok gonna try if the newer versions work now that did not work before..

IT WORKS! Now also the newest one 8.21 works without weird error! Not sure which thing did the trick, but it cant be the video thing since I do not have that setting there so i didnt change that and the one thing I did change in the nvidia control panel I did yesterday and that didnt make it work..so maybe the corrupted files or maybe the lack of the Vc-redistrubutable? I wonder why they are corrupted though, since i bought this nvme a few weeks ago and installed windows IOT on it hmmm

So when its white is it selected or when its black is it selected? these kontakt settings in file/options?

 

I'm not an expert on the subject (far from it)
I've had many problems with this system, according to what I was told it's not ideal and it brings a lot of this type of problem that we had with Kontakt 8 (I can't update the video card among many many problems)
I was recommended to install Windows 10 Home (again, I'm not an expert on the subject) but I'm in the middle of a job and reinstalling it would mean losing many of the machine's settings
