Surely music has been synonymous with theft for the last 50 or so (or longer) years. Sounds to me like a lot of luddites. (although I am interested in hearing all of the remixes of this album)

The problem, I think, is you're confusing the word 'singularity' with the word 'continuity'.

Yeah, weaken artists' rights for benefit of the AI businesses. Good for the economy, see? So that companies don't get left behind.

Next up: you know, you could get a lot of mileage out of child workers, if it weren't for those pesky laws, rules & regulations...

When the world was united in common causes it never faltered. The world is divided now on too many topics to list.
It is almost at the stage where nobody knows who or what to believe anymore.
Many are looking for someone or something to blame. That's a waste of energy and time.
The worst part is it gets harder to find something good when it can also be used for something that isn't. I know I fight it in myself. You cannot tell any person something they do not believe or do not want to hear.

So as a musician I write, create, play. At least I know that won't blow up in my face.

As I understand it, the silence is a symbolic representation of what artists believe will happen to the world of human-made music if companies can use currently copyrighted works to train artificial intelligence. The problem is that British ministers have been more favorable in finding a solution that benefits the "creative industry" at the expense of flesh-and-blood artists (be they renowned or not). And there are lots of fools here on the forum keep proclaiming that this entire AI invasion in the field of music will be super beneficial. Only if it's for the "creative industry", 'cos freelancers (who will be the first to suffer), as well as contracted musicians (that will become increasingly rare and limited), all of us will be affected.

After all, what harm would there be in AI companies training models on copyrighted music without artists' permission (who created them!)? And what does the wizard of the "newest film score," Hans Zimmer, one of the "weakest links" in the current audiovisual chain, know? Stop making a mountain out of a molehill... wake up, people!

it was AI generated. They trained a model on various recordings of studio live rooms, vocal booths, chambers etc, then had the model create silence.

They better not dare to record 4 minutes 33 seconds of silence or John Cage will sue!

Wait... I thought we decided collectively to descend from the trees (like we decided to leave the ocean)... I didn't get the memo, are we going back now?!

is it really silence? i bet if you increase the volume you can still hear something?

and tbh, i prefer music from smaller labels instead of major labels.
