Congratulations @scguy83 on your new midi keyboard controller.

As everyone knows, hardware takes up a lot of space and when you consider how many virtual software synthesizers you already own, you don't need to buy any more and you save a lot of money.

Every now and then it makes sense to think about what you already have and sometimes I make a list of my possessions and write down the prices for the insurance company in case of water damage or theft.

Not sure where you are in SC, but a guy has one on Reverb.com, mint, never used in Columbia, SC for $725. People on reverb will often cancel their listing and go even better price. He'd probably do it cheaper even if you send a pm, especially since you are "local", but of course SC is a big state. You'd probably save about 300 bucks.

Thanks bro, vertu true, I think with that AKAI MPC 37 key I'd be pretty much set, but that Arturia was so much fun with the modulation and wave manipulation.

Nice, that's actually not far from me, our state is maybe 5-6 hrs wide, Columbia is 45 minutes from me. Are you talking about he has the AKAI MPC 37 correct?

This is pretty awesome, I bought this thing for around like I think $120 or something. Look what all Novation gives you with the purchase.

For women, the drugstore used to be their modern temple. Men had their DIY store as a temple and place of worship, musicians could also live in a music store. But most of it is dopamine, which is released and gives them feelings of happiness.

I sent you the link. Reverb is way better than ebay for buying/selling hardware, in my experience. I looked because I wanted to see how they are holding up prices used, but there really aren't very many. I have noticed recently that mpc2000xl used prices seemed to have taken a nose dive. Units that were like a grand last year are now like 300-400 lower prices. The problem with buying new synths is they are like buying a new car. The minute you hit the street outside, they are worth 20% less resale. 5-6 hours sounds right, but you only actually travel about like 100 miles (joking,). The way the roads go through those mountains are nothing like in the Rockies. They go around and over and back and around lol, like they didn't want to use any dynamite to actually go through anything.

Dang I'm defintely going to check it out. I can get it from Thomann for around $690, but that's in europe so I think the shipping would cost a grip. Oh wow they depreciate in value that fast?

As soon as it is "used". it takes an immediate hit. If you were to ever sell it back to the store you bought it, they will only pay about 65% of whatever they can resell it for. A little more, or less; but that is a good rule of thumb about what they will offer you for it used. Which of course, you probably will not want to do. To get the full resale value back, you'll put it on reverb or ebay and wait for it to sell. And it will be on a website with many others for sale, too. In person, condition matters more; because on websites condition is assigned by the seller. Your version of "excellent" may not be someone else's. So people don't trust those descriptions all that much. The more # units get listed, the lower the price goes because sellers will change prices and do "price drops".

If you buy something used, and pay a fair resale value for it; but then decide to sell it, you will basically get back whatever you paid for it. Much of the depreciation happens right up front. A 3 year old MPC and a 5 year old one, will sell for virtually the same prices; as a quick example. As long as they are in the same condition, the age will almost never even be part of the conversation.

Oh wow I see, I saw a Native Intruments MASHINE MPC at Guitar Center for $130 and I asked what was wrong with it and they said its used and nothings wrong with it. I guess that's why it was so cheap, i think they run around $3-400. Reverb and Ebay are defintely the route to go for sure if you want your money back that you put into it.

well, if its one thing i can tell you to push you further into the right direction.. avoid the novation shit. . i bought a novation impulse 49 during covid, and although functional (i still use it to this day because im a broke mutha fucka) it lacks integration with several major DAWs and the one thing that i wish i knew before i bought it is how fuckin' NOISY the thing is!!! i live downtown in a studio with my ol' lady and im up at night (stagehand by trade, a/v tech etc so most of my gigs are at night, as well as my chick) and man, in the wee hours when you just want to be creative, nothing, and i mean nothing has been such a noisy hinderance as the keys on my Novation Impulse.

I cannot stress this enough. i just couldnt get it to play nice with anything but reaper, to be honest, and even then it just failed me over and over. so i hope that helps a little.

I agree actually after playing with this one the keys are extremely loud. I didn't know about it's intergration capabilites. One other thing about it is its not that great at response in time either.
