I thought they were visually scanning the actual record grooves these days.

Well, maybe not for digitizing, but reading grooves with a laser is an old invention (1989):

I guess it costs like a pair of arms, but I think it can give the best possible reproduction for vinyls today*.

I would like to know if it follows the optigan/orchestron paradigm, in that case is like an analogue turntable without stylus.
In any case very few information is given - does it have an internal A/D? Toslink? USB interface?

    * I saw a clip of this device, it seems that if vinyl is scratched it will reproduce them as well, along pops an the like. It can't do miracles.

Most people use Audacity to record the digital stream from an ADC. The reason is that not only is it free, but it works great. Just to clarify, you are not ripping anything from a record. Ripping means pulling the data directly from a digital source.

It's fast because there's no conversion involved. When you record an LP, you create a waveform on the fly, and the recording software creates a file with the waveform created. Everything happens in real time while the record is playing.

It is 100% analog path. A guy in YT has it and demonstrates it on video. Here

The Original Laser Turntable --> https://www.elpj.com (Note: Too expensive to become a mass product!)

They were developed into a product by the Californian company Finial Technology, which applied for its first patents in 1985. However, due to the immense development costs of around 20 million dollars, in which numerous investors were also involved, the company ended in insolvency. At the time, the device cost 35,000 DM and the optional “Anti-Knack” computer (a digital noise filter) 60,000 DM.

Since 2012, laser turntables have been offered exclusively by the Japanese company ELP Corporation.

How the hell is possible to hear vibrations directly from the laser? Like a real stylus? Coils???
There is no contact at all, but it seems a real stylus where you can clearly hear the sound straight from the vinyl.

As heard from the Debussy example (first is muted by yt I guess) you can hear pops and hiss and the reviewer tells that the noise reduction doesn't work mostly and the device distorts certain freqs, to me is a no go, also seeing the price.

In any case, I'm not interested anymore in vinyls (I just get rid and sell them), I lived enough and tired enough with the analog epoch and its bloody "warmth" (every kind of distorton, noise, wow, flutter...).

If you use turntables as dj can be fun, but if you search audio quality, forget about it, even with elp, stick with the "cold" digital tech.

He said his own device distorts certain freqs because it's sort of "broken" and needs service. This also explains the much lower to MSRP price he paid for it too. Then he goes and tells the story about how he contacted ELP etc.
Oh and if you are in Europe & selling any 12"s ranging from soul to funk to disco and all variants/derivatives of these incl. early hiphop and house, i 'm your guy to buy those vinyls, thanks a lot.
    Cheers

You won't be able to listen to them all, but even the covers are great and it makes a nice living room atmosphere.

Well, I still have about one hundred (?) remained from about 800, mostly 70's and 80's but also 50/60 and 78 shellac / vinyls, the first dated 1906, some 16 rpm (paper!!!), but I don't think you'll be much interested in those kind of Adeste Fideles chants.

However you could ask for particular titles, in the meanwhile I search for the genres you asked (don't expect to be overwhelmed!).

lookup photocell based compressors, similiar ideas, a light source can reproduce an analog signal. Motion picture film had an analog sound track in an adjacent track next to the film images, so the sound would stay in sync (as it was printed at at the same time as the film, so every copy was as perfect a duplicate as optical imaging allowed at the time) and the reproduction equipment could be stanadarized in every theater.
