I'm curious what you alls moniker/alias is and how did you come to that decision? I'm trying to decide mine at the moment before I attempt to get deeper into music production and establish myself.

I am thinking of calling myself Digital Chaos.. what do you all think? um scrath that lol I just searched sound cloud and there are several. I have to come up with something new.

 

My previous moniker was superliquidsunshine which is a kind of L.S.D. that was offered to me while I was doing front row center stage security at Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell concert at my school. This fellow in the audience said to me, "Let me cross your palm with super liquid sunshine" and I never forgot that, and when it came time to sign up here in like 2011 I just threw down with that. I picked Lois Lane, my current deal as I loved watching the original Superman series on television as a kid and found it interesting that they could swap out actresses for the same part. After my hiatus from the site it felt like it made sense. I guess I coulda been Darrin from the series Bewitched as they did the same kind of switcheroo on that show, but Lois flows off the tongue in a smoother way. I'm currently using a photo of Jerry Garcia smoking a joint...because, you know, it's Jerry!!

When I decided to register here, I was watching Full Metal Jacket while goofing around VCV Rack (multiple monitors + ADHD).

There's a scene where an invisible sniper is taking soldiers down one by one, and the group captain sends a black soldier to go rescue the one who just got shot -in effect, sacrificing him. Before he goes, the black soldier ironically says "Put a ni**er behind the trigger".

Right at that moment, on VCV Rack, I was basically flipping some sequence triggers on and off.

The rest is history.

 

I take these things very seriously.

 

To find an artist name, it's better to find something that have a deep meaning for you, not something that sound catchy. Your music will make the sound of your name catchy, not the other way (think about "The Doors", would that name have the same aura if their best song was "Baby Shark" ?). Lot of names can sound stupid if they don't have music associated to it, for exemple Post Malone or Childish Gambino came from name generator.

The availability of the name is also important, you don't want to be "DigitalChaos92", but if that name resonate with you, you can make it your own, the "92" or something else can be something meaningful.
Another exemple is the singer BANKS, which is a basic name that can be confusing to find, she could have use her full name "Jilian Banks" but she went to just using "Banks", and so for her social/website, as she couldn't use "banks.com" she had to find something else and use "hernameisbanks.com" instead, and use that on all her social. For you it could be something like "itsdigitalchaos" or something like that (as long as it's available everywhere).

So it's important to see what you can use, find something that you know will resonate with you in 20 years (that's why it's better if it's something meaninful to you, even if it sound silly, for exemple one of my alias is connected to my father's job, and other alias I use are connected to that first alias), then if it's already out there used by someone else, look how active it is, cause it's easier if it's not a brand/artist with a fanbase - for obvious copyright issue, but also to avoid confusion (if you're father is a king, you could not use "Prince" for exemple, even if it really mean something to you, that's an extreme exemple but your get the idea). If it's already taken (but not by famous artist, more like a username) find a way you can use it to make it easy to find, to make it your own, and use it the same way in all your plateform so it's coherent.

Yea but not just here, a name known on all platforms with music. It's difficult to come up with something. It has to be kind of simple too like you don't want your name to be like They Guy Under Your Bed.. you guys heard The Guy Under Your Beds new song? LOL

Right, oh yea it's defintely important. You don't want to be a copy of anyone, and with trademarks and such. You're right though, most bands have simple names and kinda dumb like makes no sense to us but to them its a back story. Like what kind of name is Hoobastank? LOL Whos butt stank? lol that's what it sounds like. What the hell is a Lynryd Skynryd lol

 

USA = United States America is actually called USOA = United State of America, but USOA sounds inharmonious...!

The band ZZ Top thought about it for a long time, they wanted this 3 sound to sell their records better, not Z Top but ZZ Top. Eric Hill - Hill means hill or mountain in German...!

Many bands start with A so that they are at the top of the search lists.

Lynyrd Skynryd, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Bread, Butthole Surfers lmaoo sounds gay LOL but I think they were just surfers and assholes, Thin Lizzy, Golden Earring, Bowling For Soup, Fountain Of Wayne, Sex Pistols, Limp Bizkit, My Chemical Romance, Bullet For My Valentine, Pierce The Veil, Tears For Fears, Faster Pussycat lol.. come to think of nearly all bands have weird fucking names don't they. Cannibal Corpse, Knife Party, Chumbawamba, Def Leopard, I Wrestled A Bear Once, Sick Puppies, Queen, Meat Puppets, Jimmy Eat World, Goo Goo Dolls, Arctic Monkeys, Ween, Swollen Members, Meat Loaf, Cherry Popping Daddies lol WTF.. Hootie And The Blow Fish Toad And The Wet Sprocket, Puddle of Mudd, Bad Bunny, Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains.

Then you have bad ass ones like Metalica, AC/DC, Slayer, Genesis, Gym Class Heroes, Guns N Roses, Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Faith No More, The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple (LSD), Slipknot, Pantera,

 

I have now downloaded a music band called "THE HALL EFFEKT" perhaps because of google or mental derangement, although "Men at Work" although these band names sound good and the motto is meaningful, or "Einstürzende Neubauten" does not translate google, Emils was a punk band - reading it backwards then gives "Slime" Abba " were the first names and the logo was a B turned upside down (see picture). Sex Pistols (punk) ...

 

I picked SineWave because my mood behaves like a sinewave. I can be extremely friendly or extremely irritated and not much in between.
Also, I do love FM and Additive synthesis for which the main waveform is/was sinewave. My first synth was a Yamaha with simple FM only 2 operators. I read that FM can theoretically emulate any sound using sinewaves and DX7 definitely is a very versatile synth. I still love it.

Yeah "Butthole Surfers"... wonder what they sound like.

My goal was to create a name that has no existing online traces. Google it up and be surprised, there's nothing. I try to do that with most of my online presence. Except discord, everyone knows me there lol.

How about D.Chaos, or D.Kaoz, etc - Though I've always favored names with a human touch , like John Denver, Fred Cleveland or Harold Detroit.
