SOMA products are often synths close to "real" instruments, they need practice and dedication to take full advantage of expressiveness:

They also have their sort of own modern version of the theremin:

Or the DVINA, like an electro-acoustic morin khuur:

You know how this originated, though?

2 musicians drinking in a pub. One says to the other after a few drinks,"WOODEN it be nice if they brought out a new type of synth?"

You can see from this thread the need for tangible hardware. Wood from trees is also a natural product. Back to analogue nature?

Based on your enthusiasm, I think you long for nature because software and samples are digital and you have enough of that for the next 100 years. A piece of tree disc with buttons is probably a temptation to buy the thing...!

It could also be that people need more toys to satisfy their innate instinct to play. Most of the time you find that the time to make music is the only limit. In short, we are swimming in a sea of software and the lifeline at the end is the delete key on your keyboard.

Or the longed-for hard drive crash where you then reinstall and decide to install a few more.
Or you carry on as before, filling up your hard drive every day, losing track and not having finished a single song.

But wait, maybe it's not about making new music, but about experiencing or hearing the plugins/virtual software synthesizers.
But more likely it's a hunter/gatherer thing for humans.
