Hi, do you know how to fix these errors in the Terminal when I run a .command file from Arturia.V.Collection.X.v27.08.2024.U2B.macOS?

The first time I tried, a pop-up said I needed to allow the Terminal to modify applications, but I never figured out how to do it. It used to work before I reset my Mac. :/ Thanks!

    1) You should install xcode if you do not have it, or it is out of date:

    xcode-select --install

after install, agree to license : sudo xcodebuild -license

    then verify installation :
    xcodebuild -version

    2) You should Disable Gatekeeper:
    sudo spctl --master-disable

You can Codesign on newer macOS using app called Sentinel. Track that down somewhere, or manually do it in Terminal.

And lastly, when you install a new Mac plugin you have 3 options; not including AAX for Protools. So you have VST, VST3, and Components.
Depending on what DAW you use, you may only install one format of the plugin to save space on your system disk. When you run a patch like this from a text file, it is going to show all those errors about the formats you did not install. It cannot do anything with them, because they do not exist on your system. So it says "no such file or directory".

I just installed Xcode using xcode-select --install, but for the rest, it behaves as if I hadn’t installed anything:

    "~ % xcodebuild -version
xcode-select: error: tool 'xcodebuild' requires Xcode, but active developer directory '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools' is a command line tools instance
    ~ % sudo xcodebuild -license
xcode-select: error: tool 'xcodebuild' requires Xcode, but active developer directory '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools' is a command line tools instance"

put the entire line of text into chatGPT if it will make it easier for you to copy the commands. Or, use below.

Also, here is a quick trick I do a lot. In terminal, issue the command sudo whoami

Because you issue the command with sudo, it will ask for your password and then return Root as the result of the command. You will have Root until you close that Terminal session.

It helps if you are running patches, instead of it asking for your password in the middle of the patch pasting into the terminal.

This is the error it returned to you to start out:

xcode-select: error: tool 'xcodebuild' requires Xcode, but active developer directory '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools' is a command line tools instance

This error indicates that the xcode-select command is pointing to the Command Line Tools instead of the full Xcode installation. Here's how to resolve it:

    Steps to Fix
    1. Check if Xcode is installed
      • Open the App Store and ensure Xcode is installed.
      • Alternatively, check using the terminal:
        bash
        ls /Applications | grep Xcode
If Xcode isn't installed, download and install it from the Mac App Store or from the Apple Developer site.

    2. Switch to the full Xcode installation Use the following command to point xcode-select to the correct directory:

      bash
      sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

    3. Install Xcode Command Line Tools (if not already installed) Even with Xcode, you might need the Command Line Tools:

      bash
      xcode-select --install

    4. Agree to the Xcode license If this is the first time you’re using Xcode or after an update:

      bash
      sudo xcodebuild -license

Follow the on-screen prompts to accept the license agreement.

    5. Verify the active developer directory Ensure the correct directory is set:

      bash
      xcode-select -p

      It should return:

      /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

    6. Test the fix Try running the command that caused the error again, e.g.:

      bash
      xcodebuild -version

All these steps were successfully completed, but Jun-6v still in demo mode. Here’s what the terminal indicates:

You should be able to install it just with the Xcode command line tools, not requiring full Xcode installation... at least to my understanding...or in my use, as I use Xcode command line tools often, but I don't have the full boat Xcode installed on my system, just the command line tools(which doesn't require a dev license signup or anything, and one can find out what version you are running etc...it is supposed to update with iterative macOS updates (at least mine has so far), if I was making a larger move, like from Sonoma to Sequoia, I would absolutely check...

(or am I completely wrong on that clone? I would hate to mislead anyone if I am....and I know you have a better succinct grip on all this....)

Sequoia has tightened ship more then Sonoma as these things go with macOS updates, so yes, clone is right about having to be more aware of turning off gatekeeper, or allowing the particular software etc in the security pane of system settings etc...and all else said... perhaps with Sequoia you do need the full boat Xcode install, .... I just haven't heard that mentioned myself...

(Sentinel, as clone mentioned, is a great freeware app that performs a lot of these things for you with a graphical front end as opposed to using Terminal, and can be found here:

    https://github.com/alienator88/Sentinel

    or here:

    https://itsalin.com/appInfo/?id=sentinel

I also highly recommend the dev's free Pearcleaner uninstaller as quite good, I compare the results frequently with the App Cleaner and Uninstaller app (which is a pretty much the best standard uninstaller our there right now I believe), and also check with Find and File and other tools to double check etc, but it's quite good in my findings so far....

Also the Wideblue Sound Audio Plugin Uninstaller app (which was free, but now $10, you might find it on sister site however) is really good with plugs and whatnot...

So between those tools and taking proper care to not be sloppy etc, it's been fine.

I bring up this aside as I might suggest running those prior to trying to reinstall all of this again...

but also while these tools are handy, one should probably take a little time and lear how to do properly implement those tools, and what they are doing, so you will have a better understanding (of course not to undermine the important of getting the basics down of what is going on here with Terminal and DeQuarantining and Codesigning and Gatekeeper and SIP and how it has changed etc, as while it may sound like a lot at first, it's quite important if you want to run a clean system, know what's going on and how to do it, and many other reasons....

But yeah, I'm not sure what macOS you are on, and honestly that could make a difference, as with each successive macOS release continue to tighten down the ship, and what I have to do with Sonoma is a little less then someone running Sequoia etc...

And your user account on the Mac has administrative ability right? As I'd imagine that would be required absolutely. (which clone is pointing to in the sudo commands etc...)

and quickly looking at your report, are you sure things are being installed properly and in then right place? Are you checking that the plugins are THERE in their proper folders prior? as it reads as if it's not finding them....as it can't do an operation on files it can't find...

I don’t understand why Clone made me install the full Xcode instead of just using xcode-select --install. All I want is to get the patch working.

So you mean where I did in the very first post? When you have screwed up the system to where xocde will not install, these are the steps anyone who knows what they are doing would take:

This is the error it returned to you to start out:

xcode-select: error: tool 'xcodebuild' requires Xcode, but active developer directory '/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools' is a command line tools instance

yeah, I think he did first, and I respect clone as knowing what he is talking about without question... I think the results of chatGPT that he quoted may have skewed/confused that... and shows that that ai needs a little work or something ffs, but yeah.. you don't need full on Xcode to run command line Xcode select...and I'm not. As I'm not a dev right now or anything, and don't need the bloat on my system...

Did you fully uninstall your previous attempt? And again, it reads to me as if you don't have permissions to do so, or there is something else pretty wrong and it's installing in the wrong place....

GPT showed nothing wrong at all, or I wouldn't have pasted it. When you blow out dependencies, sometimes the options are go line by line by line for hours, and maybe fix it. Or you can carpet bomb it. The full Xcode install will fix any tampering done to Xcode as it is already installed.
It can happen with Xcode, Sudoers, Homebrew, or god forbid Systemwide Root.

You have to keep in mind that those patches are often written in a way where they show "Patching Complete" at End Of Script. It does not mean it did anything. You can send 50 Codesign commands at terminal without Xcode even installed, and that patch is still going to show "Patch Complete", when it did not do a damn thing.

Many times when I run a patch like these, I do it in smaller stages. First I issue command Sudo whoami so it makes me enter my root password. It prints Root when you have those new rights in the Terminal. Otherwise the patch commands are running and you have not even assumed Root yet because it asking for your password gets buried in the output.

Then I chop up the Patch commands, into small sections of a few lines at a time. I run them in Terminal manually; and thats when I find an error or a typo. Fix that one line and it works as intended.

By "previous attempt," do you mean if I reinstalled the plugin? If that’s the case, no, I only installed the AU and the VST3. Maybe that’s why it can’t find certain files, but it doesn’t change anything. As for permissions, I’m not sure what I missed—I (think) I properly disabled Gatekeeper.

Oh I know what you mean clone. But I know the patch the op is talking about does not require anything other than Xcode command line tools, as that's how I did it.

If there are other issues as you mention, sure, carpet bomb it I guess...

I just would rather figure out what was wrong with my system or what step I had taken that had arrived there... but hey, yeah, a carpet bombing of full on Xcode should take care of any problems specifically in that regard...

And yeah, these scripts, as written by people we know and talk to, often are going to say "Patching Complete" at end of script. even in a null case nothing happened scenario lol....

And I do like your suggestion of "Sudo whoami", which I think should be suggested more to people who have issues, for all the reasons you mention, and in this case specifically, as it reads to me... in addition to some others which I will address next with the op to try and help...

(edit sorry, misread you I think),... Yeah, I would uninstall absolutely with the previous methods I mentioned prior... As I don't know what was possibly scattershot on your system, and I'm not sure if you are operating on a full deck here in regards to seeing everything, as without opening the Finder to see hidden files, or using apps like FindAnyFile etc... there is a lot a detritus that an Arturia install will leave behind... and not just the plugins in au/vst3 form...

Maybe I forget as I am typing in the thread and not sure if I got an answer, as to what os you are running and what cpu etc... or understand how things like Codesigning and Dequaranting work, and how Gatekeeper and whatnot have evolved over iterative generations of macOS... (Sequia being a lot tighter then previous and whatnot)....

And I'm not sure if you have installed, as clone said, things like "homebrew" before, which older versions may not have updated properly if you have updated your macOS etc... and so forth...

But if you aren't seeing "certain files" (of which you should see more then just a component and vst3), you need to properly uninstall and understand how these things work and what is left behind, and what tools may assist you in both having a successful uninstall, but also aid you in finding other files that are left behind etc...

It's gotten a little more tricky over time, but there are some great apps as mentioned that can help, and double check, and using proper hygiene in that regard, ... you won't regret it, and will help avoid issues... :)

I am very accustomed to seeing scripts report they are not finding VST, and VST3 copies, because I never install them. I only use AU components in Logic. Any hard coded patch will show them all missing, when it could just as easily find those plugin format instances and then execute without those related lines. They are written in a sometimes "one size fits all" way, and you just ignore all the additional unrelated output.

As for this particular patch, I have not used it because Collection X is only for Apple Silicon machines. I can go back and look but I remember other people having problems. But without Xcode functioning correctly, anything after that is a moot point.

They did a Rev2 of it which fixed u2b, so maybe it was just the first share of it which was Silicon-only. People reported problems with it on M1 and later on Sequoia. There is an error in the command file which references Wurli v2 instead of v3. Other user comments saying they all show up as demo.

Yeah, I'm traditionally an au user myself, but from the old days of dependancies with some au's requiring the vst version being installed etc as it needed it for it's wrapper at the time, and interapplication midi being a problem with au's in it's previous iterations in Logic (things like Thesys and Cthulhu etc couldn't spit out midi to another plugin via au back in the day etc)... and I'm not worried about cross compatibility between sessions or os's that much, but I do install vst3's now as well for the most part, as the cost of doing business for certain things (like ara/ara2 hopes and other small things like presets in PluginAlliance stuff I buy, and some devs rec's on which to use given option etc)..

so tl/dr, yeah, I don't experience scripts not finding vst's or other formats these days for that reason... (unless perhaps they include aax, clap, or something I'm not currently going for...)

But yeah, the way some of these scripts these days do show up (like the collective work on this particular script if it is the one I am thinking of that was lifted off elsewhere), in this case I believe it isn't "one size fits all", but I haven't looked at it in awhile, nor installed anything Arturia in 6 months or so... And yeah, I'm on Silicon as of fairly recently, and I know you haven't gone there yet, and cool, as like you,, I waited forever myself until I kinda had to, so it would be of little use to you right now at this point... and if someone is a Logic user only etc..

This script in question (again, assuming it is originating from where I think it is), has had to evolve over time with Arturia moving targets, versions obviously, and u2 issuesb... and sometimes the packages that show up at sister site don't have the patch that links to the release sometimes... and not having examined what has been provided here of late, I don't know... sure, it could either be different or have some mistakes with the Wurli v2 instead of v3 etc as it's a WIP with different/update/new releases and other particulates...

All I know is the one I am talking about should either look for Xcode command line tools install, and then instruct the user on how to install if they haven't etc as first order of business... but yeah, I don't know what patch this is in particular, or what Xcode command line, or whatever else is going on with the OP as we don't even know what macOS they are running you know...

edit add: ok, I just looked at sister site with the title of this thread for that release, so first, I'm unsure why the OP is using an older one when there is a new updated and 'fixed' one apparently on the site (I don't think there are any prerequisites that changed in terms of os or hw that I know of), and with what people have posted of the patch in the thread, I don't think it's not the one I was rambling on and boring everyone about here as it's sloppier, apparently has some problems, and could do some things to get in front of it.

and I also think the releaser should probably do the right thing, and when the patch is updated, not require everyone to download 42gb's of nonsense, (and/or more importantly at least have that available separately, all 4kbs of it), if like me, and any sane person, who doesn't need the complete Arturia 'oevre' as you will, and only want to install 2 things, or for any other reason.(saying this knowing that there are probably people that are gonna confuse that as well with the script representing perhaps releases versions they don't have etc but there is only so much one can do there)... but I guess on this one they haven't been posting incessant updates.

and as I don't wanna get in the weeds, and I'm not trying to toss shade, as it's fairly commonly accepted apparently, but that is the same releaser who also rides weekly updates of waves stuff in totality with a patch that they even admit they lifted, isn't theirs in what I imagine is the same way, and I just think it's a little low rent.... when other options and solutions are pretty clear.... but whatever, it's not against the rules, and people do what they do... and as long as people are happy, great.

I had gotten the Wide Blue Sound Audio Plugin Uninstaller for free, but it stopped working with newer versions of macOS. Do you know if that’s been fixed? I’d really like to find a good uninstaller because I feel like apps like AppCleaner are just marketing. When I talk to Mac nerds, they tell me the built-in system is all you need to uninstall something. Also I’m on Sequoia 15.2, and I like to keep my machine up to date.
