Yah its pretty gross. Its the taxpayers who paid him. Total scummy behavior. He likely pulls in millions of dollars from royalties alone, its just crazy to me that they just forked over nearly 10 million.

no doubt he had some help, but what matters is that he paid it to himself. Not paid to tour manager, booking agent, etc, but straight into his own pocket. Wether or not its illegal is one thing, but its definitely immoral, and has the potential to screw things up for other people. Congress sees this, and gets pissed. They are less likely to issue these sort of payments in times of need, to people who may actually need it.

Heh. You all are just figuring this out now? This was a thing 3-4 years back and it's still not resolved due to the number of uncounted cases of fuckery from so-called "artists"...

 

Its a very common practice for large-scale artists having whole songs/lyrics/compositions sold to them for them to turn around and make famous. Extremely common, theres a whole hustle around being a songwriter/ghost-writer whatever you want to call it.

 

We're going off an article about it, not the actual cold hard facts, data, contracts that could be called "evidence". Pitchfork is not known to report anything like typical tabloid erroneous stories. The devil is in the details; but those politicians are not a great gauge for honesty when it comes to money. Their current approval rating is 21%. That is lower than even some dictators.

 

I get that, but there are like 3-4 lines of text in this song, definitely less than 6 full lines, so there must be splits within a single line, if not per syllable.

I work with some largely successful songwriters / artist, and these sessions will often times have multiple writers in the room. Minimum there is a lyricist, and melody writer. Often times its 3-4 people. Sometimes its 1. Sometimes the vocal producer gets credit. Then theres the actual singer, and then theres Marshmello. Three writers, either melody or lyrics, the singer, vocal producer, and marshmello = six people. I know its silly, but it works.

NPR also reported on it, and there are indeed cold hard facts out there. Lil wayne for example paid for hookers and bottle service with some of his money. Pitchfork article was vague, but there is more out there if you feel like looking into it.
