The more samples, presets and other files you have, the more likely you are to lose track and then you have to install tools that help you find anything. Less is often more. I have spent many hours in my life backing up and categorizing data.

it comes with a loopcloud subscription, but you'll also get the app if you get loopcloud drum or loopcloud play, these go on very big sales often if you gonna pay for them.

some functions you dont get without a subscription, but those are truly premium features such as stacking more than two loops, looking for similar sounds and using cloud storage.

functionalities such as preview in pitch and key, exporting in pitch and key by dragging out of the window into your daw, plugin integration with your daw, slicing, midi preview, auto tagging of key tempo and instruments using ai, favourites and categories, those you get without subscription, and loopcloud does it very well. this is also the only sample manager im using now.

Thank you for the replies fellas. Several programs I've never heard of. Gonna check'em out.. I use Sononym. The dev is active & has a lot of things planned for the app. Screenshot 2025-01-16 073140.png

I use a whole bunch of things, but if you just wanna click a file and instantly preview it you can simply use Quicklook (https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nv4bs3l1h4s?hl=pt-BR&gl=BR). The most important organizational method is the conceptual one. If your samples are well organized, windows file explorer and quicklook should do the job just fine.

I 've used Sononym in the past when working with client projects from daws like Cubase. Loopcloud is a bit better perhaps due to having a plugin version. My daw for music making though is nothing most people use, i use Acid Pro and it handles samples like a champ hehe.

Can I use Loopcloud DRUM and PLAY when offline?

Loopcloud DRUM and PLAY are primarily designed to work when you are connected to the internet, as they download preset and sample content as you select them. If you save a project and load it up when offline, the plugin will load up in the state in which you saved it. Browsing for presets when offline however, is limited to those you have already downloaded.

You can download each preset in DRUM and PLAY just by clicking on it in the browser, or you can go to the Loopcloud app and download all the folders in advance. Right click on multiple selected folders and select Download in background

I helped them develop it so i get it for free. But you can download older versions where you dont need a subscription. You can also do the free trial and use it only with your local samples.

Yeah, I'm looking closely at Sononym right now myself... I do have WAY too many samples, (but have collected them since the late 80's ffs), and since I've acquired them over time since then, I generally have a fairly good memory of what they 'are', it's not like someone plopped a 12tb drive on my desk of 'new' you know? And unfortunately I have to keep a lot of stuff around for either legacy or whatever reasons... I don't have to have them 'live' obviously on my system, but whatever... tl/dr....

So I was looking for way to kinda get a grip on a subset of "best of" or "most likely to be used" etc.... and watching some stuff online, it seems like Sononym seems to fit the bill the best for 'me', but I'm early in on checking it out or researching...

Too bad it doesn't have a plugin interface, but whatever... and while XLN seems great for things, but just mostly beats etc, and I used to go through my drive with things like "Snapper" and whatnot on macOS, as you could change bpm and whatever, and would open audio files in the same preview spacebar mode just as you would with anything else on osx/macOS... but it didn't have any "similarity" functions etc...

and there is Ableton's similarity functionality etc... which I will probably implement as well....

Be curious to see how this goes for both of us, and what kind of process in terms of setting up or speed in which things are analyzed etc... but it's been something I've been kicking down the road for a long time, and I can only see it being a real time saver or great utility for things where I just used to "know where things were" kinda thing, ... and as ArcticStorm said, hey, I certainly don't need as much as I have, but for different reasons have to keep them around, but with a subset of which kept online but I would like a swifter/more efficient means then my aging damn memory you know?

Lord knows how many damn kick drums for example I have. I'd imagine it's 10 million more than what I need. I do miss the days where I had just 20 kicks, 20 snares, etc and would just make them work whether it was tuning/eq/truncation/etc... and hell, that's kinda how I have been working now as I don't like digging, I just like working/writing/producing... and the range of material I am working on now kinda requires more then my old approach with that...

That's cool, and thanks for the links (especially for macOS), is there a version that is apple silicon/Sonoma friendly that you would recommend?

and very cool that you helped develop it and worked on it. that's great.

You can use those to upgrade and downgrade as an existing user, but can you install them to use locally with no account? The free version is only like 50% fully functional.

I started to like Sononym but Resonic is still my go to tool to quickly browse my sample libs.
Only sad thing is: there was no official update since 4½ years, only updated Alpha Versions.

Btw. with a little trick the latest alpha (Player version) can be used with the dark "pro" theme and
they added a plugin to play chiptunes and keygen music which is kinda neat.
Had to use old Winamp or VLC before to play those files.

sadly the newest (paid) versions are best on sonoma. Its worth the price IMO. but i understand not wanting to pay.
