    indeed!
I just wanted to pinpoint LibreWolf updates have to be done manually by user (which often IS a good thing),

anyway, I've been testing Floorp (another Firefox flavour) recently and I think it's fine as main browser for my needs

    Subbed.. thx for suggestions

yeah me too, I still use Chrome (and FF etc..). I'd need 3 different browsers ideally. uBO works on Chrome w/o problems but there is teh warning it may soon no longer be supported.. BTW that warning's been there for like a year....

I recently added AdGuard to my Home Assistant NUC. I have been using Firefox and Chrome with uBlockOrigin for years. I was pleasantly surprised how well AG works, even when I disable uBlockOrigin on a site (which I now do as default), the ads get filtered out close to 99% of the time. You can add custom AG filters for ads that still get through. The surprising added benefit of using AdGuard was it also blocks ads on our iphones - as mobile websites can be an ad mess, they clean up really nicely.

i'm surprised nobody mentioned Portmaster, although it's more than add-on, it solves problem at the root.

People are suggesting you change your browser because there simply isn't a good addon alternative. From now on, there will only be less shitty options for a while. MV3 nerfed the whole infrastructure that allowed for adblocking through the Chrome engine in the first place. For now, uBlock Origin Lite is working decently, but I don't think it will get better than that. Your only alternatives besides that are the ones involving DNS/Spoofing setups, such as the aforementioned Portmaster and AdGuard

Just tried uBO Lite on desktop and I don't think that's gonna work for me. No CSS styling options, no custom rules. Can fix #1, can't easily fix #2. I've got like 300 custom rules.

I did it the same way but sadly for most current browsers it required diggin' in the program's files or registry and that's somehow no option for regular users.

But the result is great and it works for a long time. In case of Opera I stayed on a version for 3 years until some features didn't want to work anymore and in case of firefox it took 2 years to start some video formats to not play properly anymore.

So I'd give any browser 1-2 years to work without updates / with old addons.

I use Opera and "I don't care about cookies" & "uBlock Origin Version 1.60.0 by gorhill" still works.

Speaking of Firefox: anyone noticed that it keeps eating up RAM and harddisk space when you use it longer with several tabs opened?

Sometimes I have to use the "terminate process" feature in Windows task manager, because almost 100% of my physical memory (RAM) is being used by Firefox and I had several crashes on my PC, where the machine froze because of memory overload.

I have never had any problem with Firefox (including RAM usage)
    Nor with Librewolf.

    Just for your information:

Librewolf is a customized and independent version of Firefox, with the main goals of privacy, security and user freedom.
(Consequently updates do not happen automatically, but are easily done manually).

    And uBlock Origin is included!

I also avoid Google as a search engine: I use DuckDuckGo (privacy-focused search engine).

I also have a VPN installed (which also blocks ads).

In this way, I hope to expose as little concrete data about myself and my browsing habits as possible....

    AdGuard AdBlocker for Firefox.
Using it since many months, working fine (at the moment) in particular vs. YouTube.

I have AdGuard for Windows installed and configured on my system.

I use Brave as my primary Browser, using only it's built-in security functions. (It's worth noting that via the “Manifest V2 extensions” option in Brave's “Extensions” settings, you can install NoScript, uBlock Origin, uMatrix and AdGuard. Brave will continue to support these add-ons beyond Chrome's support.)

Another note: LibreWolf on Windows can be automatically updated via the “WinUpdater” background service that may be optionally installed during LibreWolf's initial installation on your system.

It still works perfectly even without any 3rd-party adblockers installed. Sure, Librewolf or a custom hardened Firefox might be more secure in terms of privacy, but Brave is definitely easier for anyone to use (even my tech-illiterate mother has no issues using it).

    Google's open-source Chromium project, or, Google-funded Mozilla's open-source project.

Pick your Google-flavor. Their tentacles reach everything.
