Omnisphere is too heavy, buggy and probably needs to be updated

I don't have it, use mostly Kontakt and I feel I missed something about old Nexus Hollywood series...12 years later at last I heard their sound and thought it's a good alternative as film/TV/game instrument...
    anybody agree?

The Hollywood expansions were uploaded/shared as Nexus 3 expansions. On the reFX website the first image shows it as a Nexus 2 expansion: https://refx.com/nexus/expansion/hollywood/

For the "sound effects" type of stuff, I was looking forward to checking out Soundweaver plugin from BOOM Library, but it was only released for Windows by R2R. www.boomlibrary.com/sound-effects/soundweaver. I haven't seen anyone mention it, so it might not be any good.

It does if it's a mac pro 5,1. :winker:

You aren't kidding... it's a bit of a joke when composers watch stuff and call out the presets one by one of anothers work... or watching commercials etc... even with its 22 million preset sound library...

I respect the thing for its engine, and when it came out, I saw it being used in the same way I would use a Kurzweil k2000 back in the day etc.... but preset people be preset people, and nothing wrong with that I guess, it's just like listening to "digitalnativedance" on everything sometimes when you watching stuff.....

And yeah, Atmosphere was pretty cool back when it came out... I had that... been awhile since I thought about it... I think they rolled all the sounds into Omni V1 iirc, but I don't know, I haven't used even O2 in over 10 years... and that's not to say it can't make some great sounds, it's just people tend to race to the bottom on it in their use sometimes...

I've never had a problem authorizing it, nor seen this complaint from actual "paying customers" of Omnisphere. The biggest thing I see people have problems with, arise when people try to do the installation with the STEAM folder on an external disk by selecting the "Custom Install location". It's a much more reliable install when it is all sent to the default location, and then the STEAM folder moved to the external drive. After verifying the default installation is working, of course.

The one thing I can say about Omnisphere install, that is real BS is when you need to do a 100% complete reinstall and no longer have any of the files. I think you might get one additional download of the entire thing, and then after that they charge you like $10 to re-download the content, so you can use a plugin synth that cost $500. I understand why they do it, but it's not a stretch of the imagination it will happen when the user buys a product and continues using it for ~10 years. It's like a stupidity fee.

It's not the install itself, that usually goes fine. It's the authorization scheme they use, I've done it both legit and otherwise and it always ranges from hours to days to figure out why my response to the challenge just. Isn't. Accepted.

Omnisphere works fine (on W10 at least), is reasonably CPU efficient and is quite powerful and can do things that other synths can't. But the GUI isn't the cleanest and is very 2002 in terms of design elements (when Atmosphere came out).

Some plugins have interchangeable skins, so Omnsiphere still has some catching up to do, although I think they'll leave it that way!

It's not the visual aspect of the skin, but the whole layout of the design that needs an update.

That Reddit thread just seems to be a mockup, rather than an actual possibility.

Now I understand you. I once created 5 free sound banks for the Omnisphere (see the Spoiler), a lot of work, but the sound of the Omnisphere is very good. I can say that @ Psychoacoustic is right, the synth layout is not very practical, the FX section is quite usable but the front-element LFOs and envelopes are too small and too nested.

The boss and inventor of Spectrasonics was chief sound designer at Roland for years, I think, and I would have expected a bit more. His main focus was the huge sound library for film and television or theater sound designers. But he neglected the people who tinker themselves.

I would like to give credit to the fact that he has improved the WAV import and the arp/sequencer very well. The disadvantage for many users is the overly large, overwhelming sound library that cannot be reduced in size.

By the way, the Atmosphere VSTi had a UVI engine that sounds very good.

it still good for me, but i use omni since it was released.
i most of the time just use the Atmosphere library - its just so good and so small.

i hardly create any sounds with Omni and i do turn internal FX off, but i use one instance of Omni - Multis and then Omni is very slim.

Ofc you cant open 20 Omnis, will kill your RAM.

The GUI of Omnisphere is like an old friend, I'd actually be pretty sad if it changed but change things must :dunno:

Just tested, a bit under 16 gb of ram for 20 omnis compared to about 4 gb for 3 omnis. Doable for those of us who have had 64+gb for over 10 years.
