For those who have issue with the greyed skin menu, here's what I find to make it work (after a lot of different try). Note that I'm on PC, using the 5.1.9 version from VR. Things could be different for OSX but the main idea shoud be the same :

-All skins must go in the same place where your presets are stored, it should look like this : "Nexus/Skins/N5 Retro", the "Nexus" folder could be name different, like "Nexus Library", it just how I name mine. The "Skins" folder is in the same folder where you find the "Presets", "Samples" or "NKS" folders, if it's not there, create it. Then all the skin go in the "N5 Retro" folder.

-Files must be in zip format (not rar), no dots in the names (I didn't find this issue but someone wrote it here so it's probably usefull)

-All the skin files in the zip should not be in a folder, so if you open the zip file it should show the image file (one .jpg for the background, some .png and a .json). If they are in a folder, unzip, and recreate a zip file without the folder. The name of the zip is the name of the skin.

-You need to have at least 2 skin (so 2 zip file, the default retro preset doesn't count)

Once you have the skin menu, clic on the new skin and it will create a thumbnail (it create a thumbnail folder in the N5 Retro folder)

Hope that help, I maybe didn't find every possibility so maybe there's more that need to be done, but with all that it work for me, after lot of different try and error :)

    EMITR25 NEXUS-RETRO-SKIN (Nexus V5.1.9) dirty old school EMITR25-V1.jpg

    http://peeplink.in/4ff52b9e216e

    Install:
    1st Step:

For every day use, open the "retro_folder.7z" and to overwrite the following *.png files
in your "retro folder" with the same files from the "retro_folder.7z"

    C:\ProgramData\reFX\nexus\Assets\retro

    logos.png
    retro_hdd.png
    retro_hdd_delete.png
    retro_hdd_load.png
    retro_hdd_save.png

you can easily "rename your original" files to *.png.off

Nexus will no longer load them as *.off but you have the originals in your folder.

This is necessary, so that the NEW Floppy-Disc Load/Safe/Delete icons and the complete new design can be loaded!
    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
    2nd Step:

    INSTALL EMITR25 NEXUS-RETRO-SKIN (Nexus V5.1.9):

    Copy the "EMITR25.zip" to your

    **:\NexusContent\Skins\N5 Retro

    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________
    3rd Step:

open the ".thumbnails.7z" and copy the "EMITR25.jpg" from the ".thumbnails" folder into your ".thumbnails" folder.

    **:\NexusContent\Skins\N5 Retro\.thumbnails

I love all the detail in this one but I think my favorite thing about it is the headphones jack.

    I used paint.net.
I used the recolor tool a lot and had to save several different colors, trial and error color matching and blending.

My original black skin I uploaded to the sister site was much warmer than what I shared here.

I had to create a glowing overlay template for the colored screen skins.

All the black boxes housing the text were made by hand along side a measuring template as well.

All the text was dug up from my fonts collection.
After I painted over the old text and placed my boxes/black glass over it, I added a layer containing the text.

The dials were probably the most tedious part of the whole process.

Put the skin folder in "%Public%\Documents\reFX\NEXUS library\Skins\N5 Retro",
open Nexus and select the "N2 Retro" view, then click on the "N5" logo on the upper right corner and select "Skin browser...".
