Waldorf Blofeld plugin, the software version of the desktop wavetable Synthesizer is on the way

Waldorf has released a video teasing the Blofeld plugin, the software version of its best-selling desktop wavetable Synthesizer.

The music tech companies are slowly getting ready for the holidays. Some are still working hard. This includes Waldorf, who already brought us the excellent Microwave 1 as a plugin and iOS app this year.
Now, the next classic Waldorf Synthesizer will come as a plugin. In a new video called “No time to die!”, Waldorf is teasing the upcoming Blofeld Synthesizer as a plugin for macOS and Windows.

In the new teaser video you can see the first elements of the Blofeld Synthesizer plugin GUI. There are no official details about the plugin yet, but you can already see a lot of things besides an AI-generated Blofeld villain Suppose Waldorf makes it as authentic as the Microwave I plugin. In that case, we expect the same feature set as in the original synth, including three oscillators with all wavetables from the microwave II, XT/XTk, and all Q oscillator models, two multi-mode filters, filter FM, three LFOs, four envelopes, and more.

At the top of the GUI, you can also see tabs for “samples” and “multi” that give both the sample support and the 16-part multitimbrality of the hardware. One problem with the Blofeld hardware synth so far has been a lack of quality editor/librarian software. Many were good but always had their weaknesses. I hope that Waldorf has considered this functionality in the plugin. Hopefully, they also developed an iOS version as they did with the Microwave 1.

If the plugin comes out this year, it would be a nice end-of-year release. I can only say to stay tuned for all the details.

I'll second that. The Mystery Islands one isn't too bad, it does the job to a degree but it's far from perfect. Waldorf would be missing a trick if they don't make it hardware compatible. Lots of Blofeld users out there that would snap up the software as an editor if it's priced reasonably.

The Blofeld only has a few controls and therefore tons of submenus - it's no fun creating presets with it.
I then sold it due to lack of space. I've become more of a software fan with a scalable GUI.

 

Hope they get the gui right this time: what they did from Largo 1 to Largo 2 was a step backward in my opinion (eye bleeding color scheme, extra tiny texts, etc).

 

the microwave GUI is comfortable to work on, there's hope this will be comfortable too. Not so much interested in this synth sincerely, am I missing something?

I used to like Largo a lot, except for the GUI, so... hoping for this Blofeld vst to be what Largo 2 should have been and was not lol. But if you do not like Largo's sound in the first place, I also do not see the point.

 

Yes, too expensive. The intro price is where the final price should be. For me, they just pushed it above the price I'd be willing to pay.

I agree. The display is too small so the amount of scrolling through parameters that's involved is extremely time consuming. It's a very capable instrument, possibly the most powerful there is in its price range, and it's possible to make some great patches but it's a real drag doing so.

 

regardless of how much of this code is borrowed from largo there should be upgrade pricing for largo owners

 

There goes the resale value of my Blofeld desktop.

 

There is already discount pricing for non-largo owners with a pc. They really do have a knack for bad GUI's, but maybe everyone can forget they ever saw Nave, or Lector. Nave was an abomination.

 

I haven't checked the price of bitcoin for 12 years but they're probably worth something - how does 100 sound?

 

it was probably at an all time low already, this might get people re-interested in them and raise the prices a bit

anyways... im loving the synth. I never played with the hardware, but just browsing the presets, i can see myself using this a lot. really fun stuff.

 

The Blofeld predates Largo by a few years.. If anything Blofeld owners should have gotten a discount on Largo, not even close to the other way around heh.
