its the model for his initial post.
    1. total newbie
    2. ask wildly out of touch question
    3. wants to build a skyscraper to talk to god
    4. has never owned a hammer or even seen a nail.
ie how do you compose a symphony 100% from blank paper to 3 encores with the London Symphonic Orchestra in 3 years. etc.

also new account, no previous posts, it forms a pattern any 1970's tv detective could spot by the first commercial.

but at least he always comes at us with a new angle on the same old thing, so that is comforting as well as engaging .
he tries so hard and he seems to like engaging with us. He keeps the boredom down and he never gives up, a hero's heart in a dissidents body.

all in all I give him a 4.5 out of 5 for this post, the only problem was the instant outrage when the word "Foster" was mentioned, he knew it was an individual, rather than a plugin or software or music method. Also he sort of slipped out of character for a post or two he became a street gangster, and then slipped back into bewildered newbie.

May the New Year find us all with interesting and diverse posts that may not be what they seem at all.

Only on threads like this... seriously, there's, you know, 20-25 years worth of information here that addresses the very questions you're asking- feel free to avail yourself of it and you'll find no heaviness at all! But as mentioned above we tend to get things like this from time to time and they pretty much all trace back to one particular person- who is in this thread even if it's not you
This is kind of like going on to an aviation form and saying "please tell me everything I need to know about being a professional pilot".

You don't need dive into the deep music theory at the beginning. Feel free to start from practicing minor and major scales, then you can start to learn the basic harmony, chord progressions and intervals.

Don't forget the fact that there is no ending in learning music theory, so you don't need to go too way far; otherwise, it can make you feel bored after a while. You don't need to know music theory as much as Mozart and Beethoven knew, even if you want to compose orchestral type music.

Yea, midi keyboard is very important. Don't be another lazy guy who uses the pencil to draw notes on the piano roll. Getting basic keyboard playing skills can make everything much easier than drawing notes by pencil. Furthermore, midi keyboard will help you with getting improvisation skills.

Use the piano roll solely to quantize and fix notes.

Sure, you can dabble sound design not to get bored focusing on only music theory. But always try to focus on one object, if you want to learn something faster and more seriously. It is like you can't learn two foreign languages at the same time.

No not always - think of it like a crowd of people you do not know. Some will be like-minded like you, some will be the polar opposite, some are pranksters, some are 100% focused on career and super serious, some are people able to see the serious and light side at the same time, some are one or the other, and this is because we're all different. Some people on here know a lot, some only pretend they do and a lot of people on here are totally genuine and will help you if they can. This is how it is in real life.

It's like the frog prince. Find the posts that answer your question and like life, avoid the ones that might prompt a negative reaction from you. Nobody here can say they've never responded to a comment that was ugly directed at them, self-included. It does pay to try and be aware of that and avoid wherever possible responding to them. It's like the bully theory, three times and they give up because they're being ignored. You can do that too here, click on their profile and there's an ignore button. You'll never see another post of theirs again so they may as well be talking to the wind.
    Cheers
