It´s also better for human eyes to move than stare at the same smaller point..
1,2-2m is optimal for myself for 4K 43" with scaling set to 150%
I could never go back to 19" CRT´s at half meter distance to read properly

i could never go back to loss of height, plugins like the new rhodes, must be a nightmare:yes::no:
jokes aside, production wise, might be doable (barely), but mixing
    i personally wouldn't:wink:

watching a few vids and chatting with the big screen is nice from a sofa:disco:
have a few tools/key-shortcuts to change resolution & orientation
    media consumption/interaction becomes fun:shalom:

Samsung seems to scale well but that's only for me. This is one time size does matter. I use a 48" curved Samsung and I agree if you want 4K, you do need a larger monitor.

It is important to remember though, that if you purchase an expensive 300Hz monitor and your GPU can only do a maximum of 60 frames per second, it's not a great idea.

but that's frankly my point, you could have gotten 27" 2560x1440 and have exact same "screen estate" result, literally :disco:

I use an AOC CU34G2X 34" ultrawide 3440x1440 with 21:9 aspect ratio. I love it because I can fit a 7 minutes in Ableton on the screen horizontally all at once and still see audio/MIDI parts on the tracks at a decent size. Makes a big difference to me having a complete overview of my arrangements on the screen horizontally.

Having used two 17"/19"/21" CRTs side by side for years, and plenty of early gen LCD panels, even modern day 1/4" bezels are nothing.

maybe the way you look at it, but frankly no bezels are better than any bezels, hence why ultrawide screens are slowly gaining popularity :winker:

They are still quite pricey compared to a dual monitor setup.

that's true, but once you factor in some pair of decent ergo arms, price difference gets minimized :invision:

Got a 34" BenQ PD3420Q about 6 months ago. Fantastic colour for photo/video editing, and with 3440x1440 it feels like there's acres of screen real estate on Premiere timeline/arrange page of Reaper. Brilliant purchase.

Hehe man... I had three 19" flat Trinitrons in 1999 made by Nokia (!), they would take an enormous amount of space in my control room. A Matrox was the only single gpu that could drive all 3 @ 1600x1200. After '96 the Trinitron patent expired and everybody on went to make their own brand of Trinitron models. Mitsubishi had the Diamondtron series. I was demo'ed the Nokias and they were every bit the equivalent Sonys were but with even better electronics and overdrive capabilities. I ended up buying 3 hehe. The monitor could run up to 1880 x1400 resolution with no on-screen artifacts. 4 years later i switched to 19" LCD Eizos and never went back to CRT but i do miss a good CRT for gaming tbh. Thanks for the memorabilia trigger :)
I think i said this before and got some disagreements haha. But it has been proven and i will post if i can find the older medical survey, that the way the human brain notes and remembers distinct visual boundaries, makes a dual monitor setup easier on the eye, than an ultrawide monitor where the only boundaries are the different windows themselves and the common visual theme doesn't make the same distinctive difference as a bezel. Taking it with a grain of salt of course, but i have tried all sorts of ultrawides they are a bit mind boggling to me whereas with a dual monitor setup i always know where to look at instantly. With that said, i love gaming and movies on these. A good friend bought the G9 Odyssey 49" OLED 2 years ago and every time i visit his place for some Warhammer campaign, the experience and immersion is fantastic.
    A side note here.
I am adamant that whatever size and form suits anyone, they are all accepted by me. But because monitors is something you don't change often, everyone should buy the best monitor they can afford as eye health is most important. Speaking from personal experience, i developed presbyopia at 50 years old, at 51 i had to wear glasses for comp work and reading. Doc said i should be thankful as the threshold for presbyopia is past 40 y.o. and around 45 for most peeps. He commented positively on the usage of quality monitors when working daily in front of one or more screens. So part of my prolonged eye health was -at least partly- due to the fact i always used top notch flicker free monitors.
Now, my wife was prescribed her first presbyopia glasses around the same time as me, but she's 8 years younger. Daily office work on shitty monitors with constant bad short-wave blue light emissions and flickering was the main culprit for her sight's deterioration and the doctor confirmed that too, to an extent of 50-60%.
Blue light exposure hasn't been proven 100% harmful yet. Still, it would be at everyone's best interest to take care of their eyes as best as they can. Also taking pauses away from looking at screens every two hours for 10-15 minutes, can also prolong eye health.
    Cheers all

In Germany we had these screens with green writing at the beginning because green was supposed to be easier on the eyes. Years later it was discovered that gray is the easiest on the eyes. We have now made great progress with LED. We have LED in traffic lights, you can see it better, it is cheaper and saves energy. Thank you LED, great invention. Almost all of our offices are now equipped with state-of-the-art screens.

Microsoft even has built-in blue light filters so that you can sleep at night. In our offices, people are trained to sit properly, to work without glare and to do gymnastics in between. Looking into the distance now and again is also good for the eyes. I think cell phones and smartphones for children are not good for the eyes and many children are therefore given glasses at a very early age.

there is a medical evidence human eyes get stessed "unevenly" when having certain frequently viewed elements on either edge of the viewport, regardless of multi-monitor or ultrawide setup,
it's also bit of a joke MacOS and Windows intentionally have close/minimize buttons on opposite edges of windows to piss people off
