I need a new LED monitor?

Concerns reFX Nexus 5 - The buttons are too small!

Can you tell me which monitor you use or which monitor should I use so that the buttons are larger and easier to read?

If I select a higher resolution in the Nexus user menu, less than a quarter of the GUI extends beyond the bottom edge and I cannot use it.

I use a 4K LED monitor - screen diagonal 68.4cm/27" - 16:9 aspect ratio. Will it be better with a 32 monitor?

I'm using a 32" monitor, and the grey text is still a little difficult to see. If your plan is an increase in monitor size to make them clear and easy to read at a glance; switching up to 32" isn't going to help all that much.

 

32" is still too small for 4K and its too big for 2K heh. If you want to use actual 4K resolution, I would start at like 49" and up (maybe a 43" might work). I work for one of the display manufacturers, I see these things every single day heh. I had a 4K 28" Samsung display that would make you want to gouge your eyes out if you used it at 4K. Desktop icons are so small and you need a magnifying glass to read text. Looks GREAT when watching movies or media, but will give you a headache doing normal desktop work. I now have a pair of 'low end' ViewSonic gaming monitors, 27"/2K resolution and they run up to 165hz (my Mac can handle these like a champ too). They're perfect as far as screen size/resolution goes. Prior to this I was using a 32" ViewSonic ColorPro display, and 4K was still too small, and at 2K, the screen size is a little too big I was moving my head around too much.

1080p - 24"
1440p - 27"

2160p - you need to pretty much double the screen size for comfort.

I set the resolution to 204% in Windows and the font is super clear and sharp.

I'm concerned about the buttons, other users have already complained about the font, maybe they will change that. Nexus 5 is the only synthesizer that has these small buttons.

 

you can get the interface big enough to easily see it, on a 32". it is scalable. 32" would be an improvement over the 27" anyway. Especially if you can use both of them. If not, then it would depend on the price.

 

4k - 40" <> 1440p - 27"
if finances allows i would go for min 100hz HDR

 

There are optimal screen size calculators that give you suggestions based on your viewing distance to the screen and the resolution. I'd suggest using those, and then bump up the value a bit for either bad eyes or annoyingly small UI elements in certain apps/vsts.

I would think 32" would work well, but it depends on how close to the monitor you are (and again, if you have some eyesight issues, or if the VST is just unusually small).

And I'll just ask the obvious.. it's not ideal, but have you considered bumping your monitor resolution down to something like 1440p and scaling the VST to fit? Of course it isn't as purdy as 4k, but as a 1440p guy, myself, it may not be so bad! lol (note: it might suck more though if you have 2+ monitors though, as you may want to match them to the same res)

If it isn't for gaming or quality video, just buy 43" 4k cheap tv, I got mine under 200€..
There is TCL and Procaster that sell cheap tvs, their internal os sucks which may require unpluging once a year, but other than that they are pretty bang on the buck..

 

I use a 28" Samsung 4K Monitor but agree the button/knobs are quite small with 150% Windows Scaling (Win 11) and need my reading glasses on. I prefer the N2 Retro Mode and its button/knobs

 

I have 2x 27" 4K monitors that do a great job, but Nexus 5 is really too small.

you can always lower the resolution in your OS, your 4k monitor will scale just fine. I have a 14" notebook, with some ridiculous high resoltuion, I have it run on 1920x1200, works perfectly fine. due to the high resolution there is no blurryness due to scaling.
(and yes, I could rely on the os to make gui and fonts larger, but when something just works most of the time and not all the time its no use)

 

sure, and when you sit far enough for things become too small to keep scaling at 100% (which basically is how people use 4K at 27" with 150% zoom) then it completely defeats the purpose of having higher resolution screen to fit more items into workspace

NOT by pressing your eye on the screen, or sitting back on a sofa
also hardly like watching a tennis match
but it´s generally how, people used 2 monitors, sooo, no one died of whiplash, yet

What @tzzsmk said. By general rule of thumb, fonts are readable at around 90 - 120 ppi (pixels per inch) maximum. (An exception should be made here for the younger users with sharper eye sight). The higher the PPI, which tells the pixel density on a display, the smaller the pixels become and in return the fonts. A 27" 4k monitor at 163 PPI, is suited to either gamers or photo/video editing. For productivity work, fonts in their physical resolution will be unreadable no matter the age you are or how close you sit in front of it.
Now reverting to a WQHD monitor (2560x1440) from a 4k can be a bummer when consuming content like games or movies etc.
I will kindly disagree with tzzsmk that the 40"+ monitor makes you turn your head around. It doesn't. It just needs a bit of getting used to. But this is preference and personal convenience of course. So getting down to numbers as they speak more than words.
Comparing sizes and ppi, a 34" 3840x1440 ultrawide display is ~120 PPI. Which makes fonts at the edge of the readable size. A 43" 4k 16:9 monitor (actually they are all 42.5") has a density of ~103 PPI, which makes fonts much more readable even at a slightly bigger distance. And this is how it looks like in a real environment and personally, i highly doubt this is too big.

I will refrain from detailing on various display types like IPS, VA etc. There are plenty of guides online for this.

I have to disagree with you, with a 23" monitor you don't need to move your head, you have everything in one view. All monitor sizes above that require you to turn your head. I don't believe you that you don't move your head with a 40" monitor. Maybe you believe that because you've gotten used to it and don't notice it anymore.

I don't understand what personal preference and comfort has to do with it. One more request, dear @taskforce, please consider the budget of most people when you recommend devices, 430 EUR & 900 EUR are unaffordable for many. When you read that, you wonder in what world you live.

 

exactly, plus if you turn on 150-200% scaling you lose all the real-estate
and turned your 4k into a, albeit large, (crappy) 27" screen again


i bought my 43" for about 250 (legendary korean/LG-Dell rejects)
who ran 59hz instead of 60hz
With 2x 27" resold it was more like 100 bucks actual cost
so there you go
