yesterday i saw Refx released the huge update Nexus 5
its now fully open and you can see the creators wavefiles and edits of all the expansions you own.

My thinking is, does that mean that all Expansions that you bought over the years can be just "re-saved"
as own preset or expansion and than shared with others? (with nexus5) and its even legal?
anyone tested this?

 

you should try it, but i would guess it doesnt save the wave file, but rather points to wherever it lives on your HD.

 

you can't rcreate or resave expansions atm afaik. besides that who on earth is happy with all theses tiny fiddely fonts. That doesn't invite to create content. Then I rather make content for Avenger it scales better ;)

 

You can't do that and of course you shouldn't do that either, because it would contradict the contractual terms of the expansions...

Totally true. The plugin I suspect is sponsored by association of american optometrists because it will create many new spectacle wearers.

 

Interesting question! I have another one. Is in possible to save samples used in official expansions as one shots (wav)? It would make sense because I do save drum samples (and loops) to use outside Nexus but this process is tedious. If now Nexus is open, maybe all samples are opened as well? Please give an answer if You can, I do not own Nexus 5. Thanks!

The answer is no, the expansions were created by different sound designers and are protected against piracy. Nexus is a rompler that plays these expansion presets and you can edit these presets but you cannot extract and use the source material of the expansion.

There are so many presets, samples and sound fonts on the Internet today, you don't need the ones from Nexus 5.

 

Did you own Nexus 5 and tested it, or is this just an assumption without knowledge?

Your answer is wrong. i just bought NX5 upgrade and see that i can now open the wav audio files in the new build-in sampler and
create / combine and build new patches with it. The new custom presets are saved in the user content folder and also with all the audio content within the folder.

 

is nexus 5 multi out? can each "channel" be routed to its out output in the daw? nexus 4 was lacking this and it was highly upsetting

 

I bought the Nexus 5 yesterday!

As you know, you can update Nexus 2 to 5 etc., which of course includes your purchased expansions. Each expansion has its own copy protection. Sharing or passing on expansions is not possible.

In the file attachment you will find a picture of the "reFX Cloud 3.0.142" ! first you have to log in and then you can install software via the cloud. Pretty intelligent system to prevent piracy.

 

? again, not part of my initial question. please re-read again! i know about the cloud-download of the bought expansions.
once they are downloaded you can open each sample inside nexus5 in the sampler and combine it with others, recreate, and save it
than in you own custom folder on the SSD and make new / own expansions. (they are not in the cloud then) that was the point. they even advertise its possible, i saw now.

When you want a proper answer you need to ask a proper question.

The answer is no (everything original is encrypted).

But what you can do is making single presets in an expansion a user preset and then edit it.
Soundfiles are exported as .OGG Into the directory C:\Users\Public\Documents\reFX\User Content\nexus\User presets\

This way you can export presets of expansions file by file. If its possible for every expansion I didn't test yet.

But in the end you should be aware that you are not allowed to use their expansions in the form of copying > editing and > repack as an expansion by their terms.

 

I have only had the Nexus 5 since yesterday and my 4K monitor (27) is probably too small to decipher the writing in the "ROUTING" section. I have attached a picture, is that what you mean? Thanks for the information that you can use the samples freely.

my question was very clear.
i did not asked if its possible to Copy/Paste the whole expansion .nks container or any cloud-download related things

however, the answer is it IS possible - case closed -
i dont wanna start any discussion why and what and that the internet is full of samples. Waste of time and not relevant to my interest.

 

But it is HiDPI-capable, but the font and symbols are a bit too small and when you enlarge the Nexus 5, the lower part goes over the screen and you can't operate or see the bottom. Do all programmers have a 32-inch screen these days? It should actually enlarge in width and not in height...!

Ah I see! It's not that everything is too small but only some fonts.

For the first pic (Routing):
When you englarge the UI, say, at 200% you can move things by clicking into an empty room and drag it around.
