£26.99 is a price that's making me be tempted to finally buy Inflator!

Claro is worth much more than 19 bucks, it's currently my favorite EQ. I just wish it had dynamic EQ.

Do you use the Mix page with multiple channels with Claro also on them? It's like iZotope relay, insight2, etc. I am hard pressed to think of a better plugin for under $20 (on sale). If I could, it just would be one of the other Sonnox plugins anyway. Hard to beat with their sale prices now.

Pluginboutique also has a sale of Sonnox plugins going on, and you can make virtual money with each purchase, which you then can use on another purchase.
Bought Sonnox Dynamics there for about 25€ incl Tax. (Normal price was 28,76€, but I had some virtual money left).

    I would suspect
firstly, the boutique still earns money from this ... that should give us food for thought and
secondly, this indicates that the customers are not so loose with the $ atm
so that the vendors need to lower the prices to make any money

Oxford's Inflator has been regularly found at $19 every other week or so for the last year or 6 months or whatever.

If one doesn't want to spend that even, the knockoff is quite good:

Also, they have started Machine Authorization for iLok a few months ago. Probably, they don't care if their plugins get cracked at the moment.

Yes they are usually that expensive and consistently they are good. As for better than this or that, each to their own.

Yes. They should have done these sale prices a long time ago. But the reason for the new mindset is probably due to them being purchased as a company, by Focusrite Group.

GPT: The Focusrite Group, renowned for its professional audio hardware and software brands, has acquired Sonnox, a leading developer of audio plug-ins, for £9.1 million. This marks Focusrite's first venture into the audio software market. Sonnox, known for its high-quality audio tools used in mixing, mastering, and broadcast, will remain based in Oxfordshire, UK, and retain its current team, led by founder Rod Densham.

Focusrite's CEO, Tim Carroll, highlighted the synergy between the two companies, noting Sonnox’s globally recognized products as a natural fit with Focusrite's portfolio. The acquisition aims to leverage combined expertise in sales and R&D to expand product offerings and market reach.

I bought all these plugins when they came out so I payed A LOT more (some I regret now).
My guess to why they are giving more regular sales and very big discounts is that they feel a lot more competition than some years ago.

Yeah, but come on now, Inflator etc came out 15 years ago or more... and were valid then, (and now), but obviously time moves on and they can't imagine getting the $249 or whatever they were charging for it back then... (and in the example I'm making, especially when the horse has left the barn for the most part and it's not a big mystery...)

Of course there is more competition. Hell, a lot of them have been duplicated in Melda or by others on GitHub as linked above ^ and things like PuffPuff mix pass etc.... it's pretty much a good algorithm for a wave shaper... and credit to them for that one... and it's one they have had stuck to an iLok for 15 years or whatever...

i didnt realize that Focusrite bought it. This explains the new route and why there is no updates, but instead having constant high sales on all sonnox plugins.

it worries me that as a big company like Focusrite you buy stuff and then slam sales on it or discontinue stuff ...

The market really has become wide and much better featured then it was as these plugins came out - totally.

And if you compare with Waves - which evolved with new plugins - Huge bundle - they still are kinda an industry standard, while Sonnox stop existing - also ilok might play a role in that, why go sonnox, if Waves has easier protection? Just a thought ...

Users will certainly want to have audio interfaces and plugins available in the future, and at a price that is affordable in line with the market. If a company goes bankrupt because its products are not being bought in sufficient quantities, the company goes bankrupt and with it the know-how and specialist knowledge. Moreover, after bankruptcy, no updates or product improvements are available.

It's actually good that companies then join forces and remain on the market. If turnover and sales figures fall, a company has to act. A large, successful company will invest its increased turnover or profits profitably again.

Actually, it's a win-win situation for both companies (Focusrite and Sonnox). The catch, dear @ArticStorm, as you have already noticed, is what will they discontinue, what will they eliminate, which products will disappear, which will be improved and at what prices. The competition is doing exactly the same thing, competitive pressure and price wars for the user's purchasing decision make business difficult.

You should keep that in mind, above all you should actually support the manufacturers and if you like a product and find it useful, you should buy it and ensure that the company continues to exist and can offer you new products and improvements.

There was certainly a world before the Internet and after the Internet. Before the Internet the market was mostly limited and you didn't see advertising on TV but in specialist magazines or at your music store. Today the market is global, anyone with an Internet connection can become a customer.

With increasing competition they have to offer better, more innovative products and/or cheaper products. But competition also drives companies and their staff to perform at their best, so that better products come onto the market that you, the user, can then buy. Anyone who cannot offer comparable, better products disappears from the market.

I spent 90 minutes researching the internet and gathered some data about focusrite and waves for the purpose of an overview:

    1.) FOCUSRITE
The company "Focusrite" was founded in England by Rupert Neve in 1985.
201–500 employees | Sales volume: 225 Millions USD / Operating Profit: 31 Millions USD

    What products do they produce:
Focusrite designs and markets audio interfaces, microphone preamps, consoles, analogue equalizers (EQ) and channel strips, and digital audio processing hardware and software for professional and home studios.

The Focusrite Group trades under eight brands: Focusrite, Focusrite Pro, Martin Audio, ADAM Audio, Novation, Ampify Music, Optimal Audio and Sequential.

Martin Audio have been uniting audiences for almost five decades with their awe-inspiring touring and installation loudspeaker systems.
Optimal Audio, an initiative of Martin Audio, strives to enliven the rather traditional and unnecessarily complex world of commercial audio.

ADAM Audio are precision innovators in the field of professional monitoring and loudspeaker technology, made famous by their unique ART ribbon tweeter.

Novation is obsessed with helping electronic music makers find new ways to produce and perform new music.
Born out of the Novation team and based in Tileyard, King's Cross, London, Ampify Music challenge themselves every day to make some really cool music-making apps that are super accessible, yet extendable and deep.

Sequential was founded by legendary synth designer Dave Smith, whose industry accolades include co-inventing MIDI and designing the world’s first programmable Polysynth, the Prophet® 5.

Sonnox is the leading designer of innovative, high quality, award-winning audio processing plugins for professional audio engineers. The expanding family of Oxford plugins quickly acquired a reputation for excellence among leading engineers worldwide.

Oberheim introduced the world to the first commercially available poly synth and other groundbreaking electronic instruments. Now the famed Oberheim sound is brought to a new generation of instruments and artists.

Linea Research designs and develops innovative professional audio equipment. With demanding technologies increasingly needed in modern audio systems, Linea are able to offer them all.

    2.) WAVES
The company "Waves" was founded in 1992 by Gilad Keren and Meir Shaashua in Israel.
Revenue: $16.1 million | Number of employees: from 260 to 378

Waves began in October 1992 with the introduction of the first audio plugin.

    What products do they produce:
Heard on hit records, major motion pictures, and popular video games worldwide, Waves’ cutting-edge software and hardware processors are used in every aspect of audio production, from tracking to mixing to mastering, broadcast, live sound, and more.

Waves offers Native and SoundGrid audio plugins in VST, TDM, RTAS, and AU formats for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Ableton and other popular hosts. Waves also offers licensable algorithms for consumer electronics to dramatically enhance audio performance in products by Dell, Google, Fitbit, Asus, and more.
