The year that I drove a yellow cab in NYC in 1986 I once picked up Mike Stern up somewhere in the West Village. He was amazed that I recognized him. He's a hero of mine!

Its very hard to write music that is both of its time and outside its time. Pink floyd darkside of the moon manages this. 10cc not in love. etc - buts its a very sparse list.

Suicidial Tendencies was breakthrough stuff at the time TeenAge Angst through the lens of surf punk, a kid who's parents were only too happy to use any variance from normalcy to institutionalize him. He went to their schools, was given their beleifs, their values and now he fails their idealogical purity test and they want to throw him in an insane asylum or drug rehab, and all he really wanted was a Pepsi. A symbol of corporate allegiance, a nice middle class beverage consisting of sugar, water and food coloring, and his demented parents fear have put him in a cage. Classic shit really.

Of course the passage of time has made it less impactful as the fent zombies roam the cities and the youth have imploded into impotent nerds doom scrolling forever and have been chemically castrated via drugs and adulterated food and beverages to have no angst, no fury, no unsafe feelings, just depression and apathy. no wonder they can't make music that is anything more than elevator music with drums mixed to 11.
