I have an unlimited access l y n d a . com account through my school, and I would like to try to share the tutorials, but I don't know how to get convert them. If anyone can help me with that, I would appreciate it. Please pardon me if I am posting in the wrong section.

Yes, and what video format would you try to convert?
    and the output format?

I use an old prog called ZC Video Converter.

It`s never let me down, is extremely easy to use and seems to handle pretty much EVERYTHING I have ever thrown it`s way.

There are LOADS of others out there though. Wondershare Video Converter is another good one.

Shouldn`t take you very many seconds to find a full version on line. Best of luck with it....

I'd venture saying that for mid size, good quality, they could be encoded with the h.264 codec at 720p (1280 x 720 px - 16:9 screen ratio). That's 3136 Kbps. This is the quality that low res HQ movies have for download. It's more than enough for vid tutorials, I believe, without a huge file size.

"Video Download Helper" extension on firefox gave me good results
But it is a streaming capture. Some websites try tricks to block stream capture.

So sometimes, the best mean is a SCREEN capture : you put your video in full screen and capture it real time playing. Like any tutorial made on your computer.

There is one advantage with STREAM capture : once the video is starting, the capture will follow the download speed, not playing speed
Whereas with SCREEN capture, you need to play the whole vid real time.

Try some stream capture, and if it don't work, try screen capture (search for "best free screen capture" and you will find a bunch to test).

Good luck and thanks for your efforts :mates:

You used to be able to open the "activity" window in Safari and see the file that was being streamed and download it, but it looks like they have recently changed the format for the player... there is also a program called lyndadownloader, might look into that. If you do have any luck it would be great to see the audio recording techniques course

    Alright, I1 Studios.

As a follow-up on all the advice above mentioned, I'd like to outline a few free tools that can serve you to capture your video stream. You can also capture your own actions on your screen.

    The process is twofold:

    (1) Capture your screen flow, and
    (2) Convert the resulting file to a video format that keeps quality and is lightweight enough to be shared.

To capture your screen motion with audio, of course, you can check out these links to free programs/utilities:

    For Windows
    For Mac

Once you have your video capture, you can check these free programs to convert your file (for both Mac and PC):

    http://lifehacker.com/316478/top-10-free-video-rippers-encoders-and-converters

I hope this is useful, and soon we'll be knocking on your door for requests of certain videos, I'm sure. ;)

Peace to you, and good luck with your new task. All of us will truly appreciate it.

We are talking about loads of Vid`s in order to contribute, so screen capturing is not an option.
What you have to check first: The teasers on Lynda.com can be grabbed with Downloadhelper (Firefox Addon), does it work if you are logged in?
    Code:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/?src=search
Downloadhelper has several formats to choose (mp4?) as well as build in converter (do not use it) & a capturer (view preferences) . Hoster dependend download speed...
AnyDVD Converter Pro is fast (depending on your CPU(s)), supports file formats you probably haven`t even heard of, has settings for screen resolution, audio format & quality etc. and you will understand how it works within a minute. (Put it in avi format for smaller file size and max. quality)
If you have trouble getting it (not free), send me a PM.
That`s how I would do it.

If i had free time & you trusted me I would login on the behalf of you and rip them myself (maybe next week if your interested)

But in your case i would use:
    IDM - Ripping
    Handbrake - Converting
    Winrar - Packing

    I use Downloadhelper at Lynda

screen capture software is not needed

At other places I use RTMPDump

sometimes I need to use a modified version of RTMPDump

snooper 2 sometimes helps find the streaming video link
