^^^ I definitely wanted something like Reason, where you don't have to keep opening and closing plugins or switching tracks for mixing; that is-was the fastest, I know that S1 and Reaper can do it too, but on the sound design and creativity side, they’re not in the same league as Bitwig (AL is ugly as hell, don't like it) Bitwig with SSL360 is acceptable one

If I was to go back to PC this is where I would be. But with Cubase, the concern wouldn't be the licensing; although SB charging you over and over for updates gets pretty old. All you have to do is look on their tech support forums to see why I'd rather use Cubase, but only if it is on someone else's computers. Crashing and them blaming other developers plugins, crashing because of your GPU drivers, it gets old. But the amount of content, included plugins, and lots of smaller details definitely put it at the top of my list. MIDI is equal or better than the other options.

I also like REAPER. But as much as they have the whole "open source style, only 60$" thing going for it; I would not expect that to last forever. The longer they hang on to it, and the longer people continue to help them develop it so much for them for free; the more complete and valuable a piece of software it will be. When some VC comes along and makes the right offer at the right time, the whole "open source, we'll only charge for tech support" type of ethic will go out the window.

Nuendo, just excellent in so many ways. Haven't had many stability issues, and they've been pretty much nonexistent past 12.0.70. There could always be improvements of course. Use Ableton Live for sound design, but rarely any full projects, and yeah that's pretty much my set up.

Free update license works for about 2 major versions.
And the full commercial price is $225

I use BitWig because I'm on Linux and I find it's the most full featured DAW with the best interface available to me at the moment. I do have my eyes on Studio One now that it's being ported natively; I remember really enjoying it when I was on Windows. I really wanted to like Reason when I tried it but everything is so damn small and tiny. Very hard for me to even read what everything does on my screen.

    Hello!

Local community college for my minor subjects (To save money), transferred to/graduated from Temple University in the U.S. (Go Owls!) with a Bachelors in Audio Engineering and I was a communications minor just in case.

I am still under the wing of my mentor (A local studio owner connected to the school), and for all I think I know...I still know nothing. Yes, I know PT very well, but have forgotten a lot too. We pretty much use the same moves here.

My mentor is pure old-school analog in skin form, I call him 'Log' for a nickname. When he walks you can hear tape hiss. Like most older gentlemen, he does not care for most things, and prefers to complain how lazy/soft/feminine the men of today are. But, he knows his sh*t and his 70's-80's-90's stories are insane. He had the first Pro Tools rig that 'Built This Place' and never shuts up about it. I love him.

'Industry Standard' for Pro Tools is still correct. It is in every major broadcast station, movie studio, recording studio, and many high-level independent studios, be it for contractual or freelance work. Familiarity, continuity of files, workflow, plus ease of use across multiple studios when working the same project is key here. Kinda gate-keepy to an outsider, but PT was there first when there was nothing but darkness.

"I've spent over 180k with Avid over the course of 31+ years, and you want me to chuck all my sh*t...for a MacBook and Logic, I'll kill you." -My Mentor

That said, a useable result can be made with any DAW...in the right hands. Logic is the sh*t, and I'm a Windows power user! I feel Logic should be the 'Industry Standard', but how is it with 7.1 surround creation tasks? is the editing razor sharp? Every DAW has it's Pros/Cons, and we should all be familiar with at least two DAWs. What you use to get your 10,000 hours is up to you, just get there.

FL Studio is getting people Grammys while others still dismiss it as some sort of joke/game. Image-Line is buying super yachts and Vogue models with that 'Fruity Loops' money. The joke was over years ago.

Reaper comes with it's own mixing tools, but you have to get your own piano, drum, instrument plugins. There is a learning curve as most new things have. The Reaper community is passionate, very knowledgeable, and are zealots about The Reaper. If you make through the first 2 weeks, you just may enjoy it...quirks and all.

You blew my mind about Wavelab subscriptions...grrrr. I just got outta that with Avid. I will demo Cubase/Wavelab and see if it's for me.

Thank You for the heads up and Good Luck!

You missed the chance. There were heavy discounts a few months ago, because FL Studio turned 25. You have to wait for Christmas now.

That's obvious because of Lifetime free updates. Also, they don't limit the number of Installations/machines. Under such a scenario, If people starts reselling there license freely, no one will buy from ImageLine and as they don't charge for updates, there won't be any revenue for them and they will be out of business.

Digital Performer. Intuitive workflow from a compositional standpoint. Chunks. Really solid audio editing and the midi flow suits itself to my style of writing. Configurable if needed. Works well/best for me.

I have never tried Bitwig, but have heard of it many times over the years. Also people in this thread wrote about even preferring it over Logic. After a quick look, I think I will now really have a closer look! :) Being cross platform like Reaper is a nice thing, VST 2 and 3 support on arm Mac, x64 support without running the whole app under Rosetta, plugin sandboxing and the whole device and plugin nesting thing, extreme modulation options and so on. You can do things quite simple for what i used several buses and aux tracks in Logic. Also the nested track grouping works well, similar to Reaper. Logic is very restricted to one group and one subgroup only. And the automatic assigning to fixed numbered mixer channels in the background can get very messy with big projects.

So, I started my DAW-journey back then at the beginning of 2000, with a cracked version of FL Studio (Fruity Loops back then), after about a decade I discovered Ableton Live and was blown away by it's workflow and audio stretching algos.
But after a few years I wanted to try some other daws, so I went back and forth between using Studio One and Cubase. Mostly because they had a built in listen bus I could use because I was an am still mixing over headphones only.
But about a year ago I rediscovered Reaper, which I tried some years prior, but somehow did not like it.
Thanks to ReaperMania and his Reaper 7 course, I fell in love with Reaper and its versatility. (it even uses both x32 and x64 vst plugins, also CLAP and has ARA support)
And so I finally bought it this year, and tailored it to my needs.
So I guess this will probably be the last DAW I will use.

haha wow. your bringing us way back now. Myspace. The social media of the 1800's. :guru: . I know what you mean. It was so easy to meet people on the platform. I was friends with Owl City, years before he had any sort of success. We used to chat regularly, about music and production and just about life etc. Really great guy. I remember years later when i found out Owl City was playing on KISS FM i lost my shit lol. Unfortunately i fell out of contact with him, and lost my myspace account. Also, Hollywood Undead, im dying :rofl:havent heard that name in a while. I take it your based in LA then? Or at least so-cal?
