a little bit of Iron Giant, a touch of Wall-e, a bit of Mizaki's castle in the sky, and color pallette and rendering from Disney's Bambi and roll it together with an interesting story, and voila....

a great movie in the current sea of swill being released. the visuals are stunning in a natural beauty way unseen in most modern
animation, sometimes water colors, sometimes oil paintings..

worth a watch if you have the time..

IMDB gives it an 8.4, but if you've noticed they seem to be dishing high numbers since Amazon bought them. a more realistic number would be 7 or 7.5 if you follow the old order of rating.

saw it again in Bluray, just a great action movie with a touch of humour. Blunt and Cruise, kickass and take names.

Watched Alien: Romulus this week. Used to be an Alien fan willing to forgive a lot, but I'm done with the franchise. What a nonsensical mess. Tropey group-of-young-adults-meet-their-untimely-deaths, badly written action-slasher with 0 suspense. The kills are boring, the creature design is pretty meh, the rattling down of fanservice is lame, the CGI oscillates between perfectly good and "holy fuck, this is Scorpion King levels of bad". I figured it was overrated on imdb because of recency bias, only found out after the fact that it was intended to be a streaming-only release. I'm not surprised.

 

my 2 cents ..

a chicflix pseudo horror film, if you're entire worth to the world is your body, then this would be a horrifiying existence on its own, this movie is for people who's sole value is vanity.. what could be more horrible than to age? to age disgracefully and be sabotaged by youth.

Its not really a story, per se, its a string of artfully crafted magazine shoots in motion, the dialogue is woeful, the acting is mostly preening in front of a mirror or a camera. The climax, if it can be called that does nothing to explain the story or provide understanding or closure, instead its just a Carrie inspired gorefest, thats so over the top its actually funny...

I paid nothing to watch it, and it was worth every cent I didn't pay...

In the case of THX 1138 Lucas's director's cut is absolutely the way to go. Walter Murch's sound design in that movie was so far ahead of its time it's hard to wrap your head around it.

cinematocrophic wise it is a interesting but not genius mix of a lot of vibes and directors styles and comic shizzle...the last chapter was an homage in my impression eh eh...
what the story lacked the most was the thing about the I's .

Very interesting premise, dark and funny with some classic Cage-going-bonkers sections. Also a sharp comment on social media fame and cancel culture. Plus a sex scene that will curl your toes.

 

Paris Has Fallen www.imdb.com/title/tt33184638/ is a surprisingly good action TV miniseries, occasionally there are some good shows out of France and this definitely is one, then for a comedy cop series I got some good laughs from HPI, Haut Potentiel Intelectuel - www.imdb.com/title/tt14060708 This is being remade as High Potential on Hulu. I have a lot of spare time now so do a fair amount of TV watching. I just sit play guitar and watch TV at the same time, when we get old we tend to get lazy and turn into couch potatoes.
