To get it back working again for the session, it is just a case of blocking youtube.com in Javascript. Refreshing the page and then re-enabling it.

 

Ability to run the full version of uBlock Origin is going to determine my browser choice after Edge disables manifest v2 extensions - whenever that might be.

 

I've always believed whenever there is a viable route to avoiding anything Microsoft, it's worth taking

 

Absolutely. I'm still on Edge because there was a time when it was the most memory efficient browser on Windows - now I'm just being lazy.

Thank you for your posts which gave me ideas what could be the problem with my setup, especially ArticStorm, Sylenth.Will.Fall, and No Avenger. I've been pondering about the differences between our browsing setups, and thought it could be my hosts file that blocks everything Google, so I removed the Google entries from my hosts file and voila! It worked! :party: :wine: :buttplug: :pornhub:

Then I started putting back one by one to find which one is problematic: doubleclick.net, google-analytics, play.google, googletagmanager... and jnn-pa.googleapis.com <- this is when Youtube reacted. Or rather, stopped reacting. uBlock Origin probably blocks it somewhat differently, so YT works. I've heard that's the server responsible for ads, so it makes sense.

So I'm using Firefox 128.3 with every security/privacy feature turned on (even using encrypted DNS - Quad), and uBlock origin + NoScript add-ons. Works nicely. Hope it's not just for now...

The only problem going down the Hosts File route for this is. Those sites up there are youf ortou sands of others too You might fin in the future a site noy opening and be pulling your hair out wondering why.


I really ahouldmt type on this maxhine. this is my tv cimouter and the screen is set for very small fonts and iuts dak here too.

Oh and the room is spinning because i had a few drinmks as well.


I came back this morning to edit this, but I cant work out whatI was trying to say.. oO I really should stop drinking!!

I wasn't sure how to rate your post "funny" or "useful" cos it's both. Your fault you made me laugh, so "funny" it is.

Good thinking. I will definitely keep it in mind if something stopped working, like Youtube in this case. I'm still blocking those four Google spies in hosts file, also some Yandex servers, and that's all. Ublock + NoScript is a fabulous combo. Even uBlock alone should be enough. I'm just that anal about my browsing setup.

Piped.video a "VPN" or rather a "proxy" for Youtube and . Cool. This will come in handy for when Google decides to take things even more serious. Thanky!

I've been reading a lot about Google on Slashdot lately. It doesn't seem they are a happy company anymore and sacking off people by truckloads lately. hmmm

I'll try and explain the easiest process now that you have noscript added.


you can undo all those things you put in the hosts file they aren't necessary.

When you go on to you tube and you see the blank screen (or they have screwed it up in some other way),

Oh wait.. No I didn't I must have learnt this after I posted it.. duh!

go to noscript settings, and where you see youtube.com is (trusted) set that to untrusted..refresh the you tube page

afterwards, set again to trusted and refresh again. voila. everything will work for that session.

I tried to explain that on the very first post in this thread but I failed to explain it properly.

(Zero ads, no censorship, good quality player,
lots of YT channels also exist there with the same content..)

Running a Thorium version I haven't updated in a while (126.0.6478.231), UBlock is still working
In Firefox 115.14.0esr Ublock also seems to be working allright.

I'm running Debian here, so it may be different on other OSs..

In any case I'm not updating Thorium until strictly necessary, as it's the one I use for videos.

Never had any problems with the ad blockers or youtube, FF win10

 

uBlock Origin + Firefox (or other flavours like Floorp) works fine
