    I was thinking the same. I read it somewhere a while ago
    But I'm not sure if it was "same coders", "same sound", "same HW unit" and so on...

    yeah!! I think they are the same dudes that made the H3000 hardware unit.
    just saw their description in their youtube channel:
    Based in Burlington VT, Soundtoys (formerly Wave Mechanics) was founded in 1996 by the DSP engineering team that created the legendary H3000 Ultra-Harmonizer and the DSP4000 line of hardware signal processors from Eventide.

    Soundtoys make solid plugins that have stood the test of time. They were much more impactful a decade ago, but they're still very serviceable and deserve the legacy they hold.

    Decapitator and Echoboy are great plugins but nowadays there similar things, same for alterboy or panman

    What is still unique is Deviloc, that damn thing when is working is unbelivable.

    Best thing to do is keep the installation files for everything you're thinking about removing. Uninstall ALL of them.. Then in 2 months time, see which (if any ) you miss!

    That way if you find you miss them, merely reinstall them..

    - Cherry picked tone (eq) curves responses for their plugins, in order to have the most pleasant sound;
    - Amplitude-dependent saturation response for the famous decapitator being more forgivable on the transient rather than brutal waveshaping;
    - Carefully selected IR's for their box tones profiles for their modeling plug-ins, in order to have the most pleasant;
    - Finely tuned algorithms in order to sound more musical and "expected analog sound" rather than mathematical realism;
    - Thoughtful modulations options for the Echoboy;
    - Lowpass filter on pretty everything in their outputs, softening the sound and making it easier to hear and easily faking the expected vintage analog sound

    Saturation is their main mastery to me.
    There is a saturation stage even on EchoBoy.
    The magic is here.

    Saturation is very difficult to model ... and they nailed it a LONG time before others.

    Decapitator is hard to beat, even by today standards.
    Same with PSP Vintage Warmer : more than 20 years old and still kicking.

    On the other side, it means you can (almost) get the "Soundtoys" sound by using Decapitator on any other plugin brand.

    I've tested Decapitator and concluded that it is basically an ordinary saturator with several pre-configured filters designed to emphasize specific frequency ranges.
    The harmonic content produced by Decapitator is comparable to what can be achieved with a basic waveshaper configured as a soft-clipper.
    The endorsements from some "Grammy-winning producers" add nothing the plugin's functionality. They could have achieved similar results using stock plugins.

    I got two auxes on my template one for Devil-Loc (mainly for squashing drums and getting distortion at the same time) and one for Decapitator which i can send basically anything since the entire drum kit to basses, synths, guitars... They just work. And Echoboy is the kind of plugin that saves you from using hundreds of other modelled delays or emulations because it have the most important models that has been used through the modern music history, from Space Echo to Binson. The kind of plugin that i feel i don't miss NOTHING and this is quite rare.

    not a lot outside of their Plate and OS updates etc tbh, but they pretty much got everything in their lineup right the first time.

    I use them all the time, certainly don't regret buying them (and hell, it was only ~$120 back 10+ years ago on sale for the whole package, never have had to give them more money, and I know them so well, and they are simply really musical off the bat as well tuned and dialed in.

    I've tried most other things that come around the block and down the bend, and Soundtoys obviously don't cover everything, but what they do cover, they do well.

    Those filters are commonly know as circuit bump and they cannot be reproduced using an standard eq and it's an important part of analog emulation on plugins. Those are IR filters, and shout out to Soundtoys to have figured it out before everyone, maybe thats why their emulations were praised back in the day. Most devs actually miss how important those bumps are and give you a flat response and THD and call it "analog" because most of the folks will be convinced when they strap out their Plugin Doctor and see the 3 lines of harmonics and a flat frequency response. Well... No.

    Did everyone forget Melda exists?
    it’s one thing to say it’s popular—but it doesn’t have any more flexibility and utility than mTurboDelay.

    like literally nothing. On top of that, it has it’s own in-plugin modulation and automation.

    if the question is 'why is something revered', a plugin released 12 years afterwards is less relevant, especially when the originals are still good (if admittedly not as unique and market leading as they were for so long)
    thanks for the reminder to use melda more tho
