The mixing and arranging on this album is really good, and so are the Spiders! Everybody is currently ripping off the 90's, so I think I am going start ripping off the 70's :)

Great, great record. Yes, Wakemam plays on LoM but the real shit is the incredible Mike Garson on the title track. Apart from the opening track the album is almost flawless.

and this is another take on life on mars, with a very well played intro of bowies greatest hits in a minute or 2, amazing musicians switch tempo effortlessly between measures..

I love both this and Hunky Dory more than Ziggy :dunno:
And ripping off the 70s is the best thing you could do, from Bowie to Yes to Frampton to Zappa and all points in between.

I love Rick (especially in Yes) but Garson was next level. Still is, I suppose.

    @Zenarcist

Bowie definitely, but If you're going to rip off the 70's, specifically Glam Rock, you could do a lot worse than choosing 'Sweet' too!

    Blockbuster
    Ballroom Blitz
    Hellraiser

just 3 examples off the top of my head.

    God I love Ballroom blitz:disco:
I´m actually waiting for Bowie´s early stuff Atmos-mixed, I think it might suite perfectly, since it´s already quite 3D sounding

I love The Sweet...in that guilty pleasure kind of way.

...but please, never mention them in the same paragraph as DB ever again.

But yeah, Ballroom Blitz is a killer. Not to mention Action, etc. If you really want to slide into deep depression do a YouTube search for Steve Priest's last interview.

    You'll weep.

+ Set Me Free, Teenage Rampage

If you want to rip the 70s ... get the Top 100 singles of every year, listen thru, it' a lot of BS in there, but, hey, where is light there are shadows. And get all the 70s albums from the "Rolling Stone Best 500 Albums" list, also the 70s albums from "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" list.

Glad you found the Holy Grail. :))

Mike Garson's piano solo in Aladdin Sane influenced me most as a keyboard player and perhaps on any instrument
I'm playing...not that I could every dream of cruising the ivories like him as he is a genious A-class piano player who can literally, impeccably pound out anything he so desires, but rather the concept of being able to infuse notes that are "out and weird" and make a run sound as perfect as the first warm and sunny spring morning after a bitter and cold dark winter season.

The year I drove a night shift yellow cab in NYC in 1985 Alladin Sane was the album (of course on cassette tape) that I played a couple of times a night on my big Sony boom box sitting next to me on the front seat as I picked up fares. It kept me "sane".

Great story, Miss Lane. I love it. If I got into your cab and Drive in Saturday or Time was playing Id be one happy passenger.

Then again, if you were playing Herrmann's incredible Taxi Driver score...I may look in your rear view mirror and see Trent Reznor.
