Browsing through the YouTube university gives me chills, especially when I look for audio tutorials.
There is so much smattering around! Self claimed audio engineers and half grown "professionals", just because the had one self release!

Who can be trusted?
Who tells the "truth"?

I know, there are many perspectives on audio processing. But it seems even basic audio knowledge is not needed anymore, when people claim they can hear the difference between WAV and AIFF...

YouTube is advertising platform, not educational platform,
it's been long time since I saw an actual tutorial which wouldn't (sneakily) promote a specific software, plugin or piece of gear,

I trust nobody,
and only value those that don't enforce their opinions

All right, I'll bite. I haven't done in months.

Youtube is great. You could learn more than enough about everything. There's 10s of hours of courses on aspects such as mixing, orchestration, how to feed boiled eggs to rescued drunk gals. It's great! Say what you want, If a christian helps you, you can justify it's because of his religion, you can say he's after something. But, the fact you've been helped remains the same. I'll tell you this, there's more than enough on the bloody site. You fellas don't deserve half of it.

But really, it's not the teachers, it's one's ability to learn from somebody. And you can learn from anybody, if nothing else at least from their mistakes.

i agree on , that the last 2-3 years came a lot of channels up which are run by newworld fckheads ,
through common yt hype for getting income .
saying yt is shit ,is stpd , on yt are very deep level knowledge videos on .
since you on here long time you should know there are adequate channels for every audio topic you need .old channels of course

 

Nothing new here. Wouldn't blame that on youtube except for maybe giving such discussions more exposure.

If what i'm watching resembles the scientific method, even if in a very casual form, then i'll trust it until proven worng. If the video is trying REALLY hard to sell me something (a plugin, a course, a mastering service, raycons, etc.), i won't trust shit. And then there's everything in between.

Now, now...I won't deride you anymore. I know it's a perfectly natural course. One who ventures on the path of musical excellence necessarily arrive on Scales, Instrumentation, Form...and obviously very directly and in no time to WAV vs AIFF. Nothing wrong in that.

still relevant for some other area but only around 0.5% when it comes to music/audio. There are some good stuff but like someone already mentioned it's more about advertisement than it is about anything else. If I ever want to find something from youtube I rarely got what I want from the first search result, or the first page of it, need to scroll through all the garbage and "you also like" stupid shits until I found a good one maybe on page 3 and beyond.

ULX probably have a youtube channel, a poor man version of Rick Beato idk. Both equally bad if you want to be a proper progressive forward thinking music maker.

When you watch one of these big "courses", where you follow the presenter's entire workflow; you can generally get a good result. Because they are step by step, methodical, and organized. It's like a cooking recipe, where when each step is followed to completion of the recipe; the thing goes into the oven as a liquid batter and is magically transformed into a cake. They are someone's system. Like Doyle Brunsons poker book called Supersystem. It does not teach you how to play every single hand of cards, but how to do it in a way where you always leave with more money than you showed up with.

These little short youtubes are created for people with low attention spans, by people who may or may not even know what they are doing. Knowing the ins and outs of one plugin or processor is nearly worthless when not part of the bigger picture.

There are so many good full courses you can download, which are mostly free of influencer BS. If you need to mentally reconcile conflicting information in so many different youtube videos about the same things; you are in for a very long learning process.

need to highlight this one channel named SonicScoop, I think everyone knows it which is soooo fucking good when the guest is speaking, and the guy that run the channel shutting his mouth. Exceptional channel if you dont pay attention to him talking his bs, just listen to the whoever guest he had on that video, might endup with something useful.
