I have been using this since it came out, definitely a must have.

No it's to relieve your eyes at night, or when working in the dark. And definitely not for any color sensitive work, for me just working in my DAW in a darker room. And you definitely want to mess around with the color temperature in the settings, just to where it takes that strain off your eyes, the default settings are crazy for sure.

I installed it this morning, tweaked the settings a bit cuz the default was too much. I just remembered to check the difference it made, Its awesome, really unnoticeable until you turn it off. I did the 24 hour preview and I was blinded by my daytime setting lol.

unfortunately it cant affect my USB monitor, but 2 out of 3 still helps my eyes.

 

What relieves your eyes greatly and without any additional software is using a colour scheme like this:



You can easily test that by looking at the black text on light background and white text on the dark background on this screenshot. What text is easier on eyes and easier to see, too? I've been computing for 30 years, always with an "inverted" white text on black background colour scheme and I can tell you there's no eye-strain at all. It works! Give it a try, you'll *see* for yourself!
What cretin invented that we should use black text on white is beyond me. That colour scheme is completely wrong for looking at the screen, but it works for paper, of course.

Is this the same thing as f.lux? been using that for a year or more now.

It prevents eye strain but it was designed to prevent your monitors brightness from keeping you awake (not to stay awake !!)

I found it useful to use for longer periods though through the wee hours.

Actually is not only for preventing your monitor's brightenss from keeping you awake. If you take it logical... in a dark room (as mine, where i can't see anything around just my two monitors and everthing in front of them) and the standard cold brightness of the monitors put alot of strain on my eyes because the monitors are the only light source who hits my optical nerves so the eyes try to adapt to that enviroment(because they're used to the normal enviroments, natural light, etc.)
For a very dark place like mine, f.lux is a really good tool.
And about the guys who suggested browsers addon, i agree with lampwiikk, how does that helps in a DAW or overall computer use? For a personal "internet" purposes laptop is good, but not for an overall computer use. Also SineWave's visual set up is great!

 

Is not really for a "very luminous enviroment" only, you can find it great if you work in a very DARK enviroment, you can experience it on yourself.
If the monitor is the only light source in your studio which hits your eyes directly, then your eyes will really get forced to adapt to that kind of enviroment (as long as they're used to the every-day natural light)

When i do audio work, i use the "Darkroom mode" of F.lux. It turns the screen in a negative-red vision, which in the first seconds you think you almost got blind, but in the next two minutes you'll actually feel your eyes refreshed and relaxed. Just do a test, turn off every light in your room, cover your windows and make sure is dark as hell, then read some articles on Audiosex(because is bright) for... let's say 20 minutes then activate the "darkroom mode" on F.lux without minimizing the forum page and see how it goes. then work in that red enviroment for other 20 minutes and deactivate the effect (you'll feel like your eyes will get invaded with tons of light, that's because the previous "darkroom mode" enviroment is based on red, and when it comes about colours, red contains the lowest light quantity).

i m a contemporary hermit, i don't remember what the natural light looks like.

My only reference is now my screen. My mutation started last year and i feel i don't need anymore extras. My entire body is now dedicated and adapted to ultra-intensive use of computer.

Indeed, the only tools i will need are those for the real life (sunglasses, clothes, learn how to walk and so on )

PS : Reaper has a really nice color scheme ! Why Ableton which is so nice regarding many features is so crappy regarding it's colors - or rather i should say it's lack of colors ??

f.lux is awesome btw, i've been using it for years. Burns my eyes if I turn it off nowadays lol.

 

I just installed this flux thing. Not bad at all. I have to disable it when doing design work for obvious reasons, bt for working with music or text it's great. I'll put it on the rest of the computers tomorrow morning.

I just feel like an idiot. It's been years I use Live and I didn't know you can change skin.
That's a game changer to me, I always almost fall off my chair when I open ableton at night and I'm still not totally awake.
I love THiS ONE, gonna try it tonight.
I'm really used to default skin, tried to use the other included in Live but never liked them. But this one suits me perfectly!
