Hey guys I have a multiple computer setup using VEP for most projects but I have some single computer projects on secondary computers that I’d like to work on from my master computer.

I have the audio working good and connections are smooth but I cannot play my midi keyboard thru the master to computer and control the daw on the secondary.

does anyone know a workaround for this?

I installed and tested rtpMIDI, it's awesome if you need to control other computers via MIDI.

 

rtpMIDI is truly the software of the kings, it does the whole mDNS (Bonjour) autodiscovery so all devices in the same network can join in a session. Apple's CoreMIDI does this by default as well, so you can also set up any floating iOS devices to act as remotes.

I use this to hook up my iPhone as a simple remote (start-stop-play-rewind) and my iPads as controllers with TouchOSC and a simple MPE keyboard from Animoog.

 

so i did the same but cant get it to work properly controller is hooked to the mac but i cant control studio ones midi on my windows pc, most i can get going is generic midi noises being triggered on the pc but no daw will respond to it

 

This depends on your MIDI software, but using Ableton as an example, you explicitly have to set the MIDI ports to both "Track" (normal midi instrument data) and "Remote" (access to Ableton features themselves) on. So if Remote is enable I can map incoming midi to volume faders, transport controls and suchlike, which is what I want.

What DAW are you using, Robbie?

In Reaper there is this very useful thing called ReaStream. It does both MIDI and Audio.

There is a VST plugin version of it in ReaPlugs: https://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/ but it hasn't been updated since 2016.

However, Tobias Erichsen's rtpMIDI is a very mature and stable solution. It should work.

No matter the daw used, you must enable the rtpMIDI session on both sides and enable it in daw too.
Search in yt rtpmidi and you'll find many tuts.

yes i actually watch that exact one and thats how i got the generic midi triggering on the pc from the mac just cant get it into the daw.
