I'm not a technician, but I was able to "intuitively undestand" that kind of IRs

that's just a simple frequency response of the speakers (which can be done with a normal EQ like Soundreference does for example) plus a "simulation of cabinet" or something, which is a well known technology as well

I'm ignorant...but I think that those kind of IRs are the "less hilarious". That said I didnt try it, from PastToFuture I am enjoying many "normal" reverbs IR's, some "strange" preamp and converters like AKAI 1000 or 950. All useful for creative purpose and I have to say with very surprising results. I am not planning to use a Lavry converter IR on my Stereo Buss actually, but I will try something on a synth or guitar bus, for example the BURL emulation sounded interesting after some tests

I wouldnt say thats all snake oil or MAGIC SAUCE, I just suggest to give a try in certain situations, even to the speaker/cabinet simulation

EDIT: I probably mixed among IRs or NAM profiles, two different animals, I just dont remember which is one or the other...

I am well aware of what impulse response tech is and have been using it for almost 20 years now since Logic's Space Designer came out. These make absolutely no sense no matter how hard you try to justify it. The whole point of using Auratones is to listen back to your tracks through that specific speaker and its cabinet and hear your tracks response. Why would you want to mimic the sound of those monitors, and then put them through a completely different monitor with a completely different speaker, frequency response range and color?

Sure listen to how these Auratone's sound through my Focals, I can totally tell what the mix is lacking here!!

I mean really, if you want your tracks to sound like they're coming out of those speakers, just kill all the bass and treble and crank up the mids so it sounds like an old telephone or radio, problem solved.

have you ever tested PastToFuture filter IRs? I use them and they are spicy on synths/guitars or certain parallel returns for drums. Something you could emulate ITB, obviously, but with a chain of 4-5 plugins, so why not try it?

I never talked about using Auratone IRs to test "how a track sound on alternative speakers", I always talked as being interesting as sound design purpose. I will never put something like that on my Stereo Buss, as stated

Only a fool can think to substitute hardware speakers with those IRs, but thats pretty obvious if we are talking among professionals.
