I don't think anyone can break down a door with bare hands (something that needs to change in the future)

Imagine the door knob malfunctioning and stop working while u're in the bathroom, or any other room

I was lucky to have this happened to me while i was in a bedroom and i had to use the wire from the earphones to get myself out. But i also had the option to yell to the neighbours and make phone calls cause i was in my bedroom with a phone. But i got myself out / quicker option to try that moment.

But i'm wondering....what if it happens in a bathroom. No phone....and if you have no closeby neighbours to hear you...what happens?

I'm a bit amazed that this can occur and i don't think any measures are being taken even nowdays 2024? like a new tech or something that can prevent this

cause i don't think many people (if any) can break down a door with bare hands or even to use harder things to break it down...unless its made out of cardboard or something

Why would I lock the bathroom/bedroom door behind me when I'm the only person in the house. Seems irrational.

i'm not talking about locking, i mean just by closing the door normally, the door handle can stop working

If it's a real issue with your particular doors you could keep a screwdriver in each room so you can easily remove the handle. This did happen to me once but I was on the outside trying to get in and had my tools handy. Since then I keep a few tools inside the room I couldn't get into just in case.

I only close the bathroom door behind me and only when I'm not alone.

Reason why I always place a tiny bit of C4 on the hinges of my doors.
    It also surprises burglars...

Happened to me in an airport stall once, the handle looked normal from the outside but the inside part was missing. I had to shout out to a fellow bathroom user who alerted airport security. They summarily kicked in the door (could've thought of that myself) and I barely made my flight.

the normal european doors i'm talking about, do not open just like that. Noone can open them even by kicking them or punching them.

yes or one of those multi-use pocket tools or pocket knives. but also a lot of door latches can be bypassed with a credit card. if you only have a flat blade screwdriver you can pull the pins on the hinges. but its a a pain to get them back in with one person..

you could cut a hole in all your doors and put windows in them, then whenever you can't get out, just break the window. or you you could just not close the door...

The phrase maintain your equipment comes to mind.

When was the last time you opened the lock to re-oil the parts and confirm the pins where correctly fitted in place at both ends?
Probably never but it only needs done every 5-10 years normally.

If it's bothering you that much change the latches to roller latches.

Then the doors just push open.

Anyway what happend to you is why doors open into rooms. So if the latch fails when your in the room, you are on the side to push the latch back using any hard flat object and open the door.

Get Roller latches, Your over thinking this problem.

In general, good quality doors are regarded for this very property. I wonder if there's a market for "shit doors that if I get stuck in a room I can knock them down and escape"?
Not even being snarky, this is an idea I need to ponder. The beauty part is typically, you can market this sort of thing for a premium price even though it's cheaper to produce. Like when they take the sugar and flavor out of Coke and sell it as "water".
