Hey, lately every time I download a file and I try to Unrar it on my Macbook it says that the file is not compressed and cannot be decompressed. (Picture Below) There's no other way I can open the file. Has anyone else come across this problem? It's been multiple downloads, not just one.

 

Says "part2" in the file name - did you try extracting the first part and only the first part? Multi part rars only require you to locale and extract the first part, the program will extract the remaining parts by itself.

If this isn't a multi part rar but rather several single part rars, and they won't open in your unrar program, try opening them in some kind of (hex)editor. If you do not see "Rar!" at the very beginning, you're not dealing with a single part rar file.

 

actually, sometimes I get errors like this,
for some reason, archives created in Windows fail to extract on MacOS, especially when source and target languages/charsets differ,
can you try extracting the files via Parallels in Windows?

 

the main or root file has a header that describes the archive to the unarchiving program, it tells it how many parts, archive name etc. If this is corrupt or you have the wrong unarchiver selected, its a fresh plate of fail.Also as noted by others you must begin at the beginning to end at the end, so start with 1st file in a multi file (part for people who refuse to learn operating system terminology)

If you have a real computer o/s that lets you manage files, you can rename the file extensiion from .zip, or .rar, or .gz to .txt and look at the file in a text editor, you should see a header that begins with, rar or zip or gzip or whatever sort of archive you are dealing with, along with some other ascii that will give you clues about the file, followed by a shit ton of tokenized or compressed data that is incomprehensible, if you don't get some ascii with a header at the top of the file, you have a corrupted file..

if your scared about fucking it up, work on a copy. its your computer, feel free to figure out how to use it...

 

Go to your download side agian , and make shure you downloaded ALL. Normaly you have (a *.rar) and several other files (*.r01, r02,...) . Extrakt just the *.rar , the rest follows.

 

Thank you for all the replies. I honestly didn't expect so many so quickly. I got it working now. I didn't know I had to have all the parts downloaded first before unzipping/unrarring part 1. It worked. Thanks again!
