Actually, the second black box should appear only when you have assigned a midi controller. Go into Mixer and click the "External" tab and double click one of your shown midi controller (if you got them connected and set up already in the settings) and start to assign your knobs faders and buttons, because the missing black box is usually for showing you which button/knob/fader of your controller can you assign to a particular parameter..

Going back to my previous (from presonus forum) workout :( :

in the Mixer window you can Control Drag the Instruments and it duplicates the instrument (VSTi)
Quick and easy. Then just drag up to the arrange page.

    = SHIT

I posted a video about that on the first page of this thread.

well you can write the support a mail and ask i there are some way to get the things solved you have on list or maybe they already have planned something.

thats what i did with BWS and also with Ableton, Reaper!

I hope you didn't offend for my "not so polite" definition of the workout, it was obviously related to the sw capability to solve the main problem: that for me is (and seems for many users too), starting from a single vsti instance used for a multichannel rack of instruments (and subsequent multitracks), to generate for each of these tracks a copy with indipendent instrument (to allow mixing it it inside S1 mixer and not inside instrument rack :wow: ).

All main professional DAWs seem to have this feature.

I saw your video, the workout is more or less the same i mentioned from presonus forum, but not related to the above problem solving.

That, at the end, remains to start with multiple instances of the same VSTi.
    Time. And power

Thanks a lot anyway for the suggestions, useful and appreciated

No intention to offend anyone. I saw "OrganicSpaceRaisedMoonBeam"'s post where he said he couldn't figure out the automation on S1 so i thought would be handy for anyone who had similar and other problems with this daw.. Thank you too!

Hi guys, Sorry for the long delay, had internet connection issues. Wow, Going to take me a long time to read the comments you guys left. Just to clarify. I don't hate studio one in anyway. To me it's still a relatively new and fresh DAW with fantastic potential.

Sorry being vague on the 4th about insert chains. I was just curious into where the file structure lives so that additional chains can be categorized rather than over-written. Will get back on that once I've read all your comments.

    Thanks guys.

We all actually like Stuio One, there are just some things that are incredibly frustrating...like that fugly GUI. Also the mixer needs work, not really feeling it. It's sad next to Cubase's mixer.

I totally agree, I often use C7 or Ableton for mixdown then master back into studio one.

The second black box only appears if your screen size is big enough.

Buses don't get inserted in a random position in the mixer... they get iserted next to the track which is highlighted.
However, many times you have another track highlighted than the track you want to place the bus next to... that's why it can appear to be random.

    the renaming problem...
for me , it is a pain, renaming things and then ending up with totally different names in the mixer view.
i tried renaming from the mixer and it works... for audio tracks only..??
anyone know why i can't do it for instrument tracks.
i know this a really trivial point, but it is one of those things that can get annoying hence disrupt the 'work flow'..
    innit : )

    @ Evorax:

The Zippy link is dead - was the video voted off at all?

I made it a long time ago and most of the Zippy links die fast :dunno:
I filmed my screen with Camtasia showing some stuff about S1 but i deleted the video after i uploaded it on Zippy so i don't have it anymore.
