For anyone using Nebula on Reaper, I’ve found that the best way to work with the libraries is to create a Container and then drop the different modules into stacks in the container in the order usually suggested on the dev sites. Then save the container as a chain or a preset for easy retrieval after. So it’s like you’re creating a full plugin that you can call up like any other plugin. You can check or uncheck any of the items you want to use or not. Whenever I get a Nebula library it’s the first thing I do - set up various containers and then they are ready to go for projects later on. Just a bit of front end work but the pay off later is worth it.

 

For those that have a lot of libraries, how do you organize them and keep your Nebula plugin tidy? Is the trick to make a lot of setups? Is there a guide for that somewhere?

Just get Trackcomp, NI comps aren't even that great like Waves CLA comps, kinda out of date.

This exactly. you can contain multiple libraries within one setup, and switch through them in the finder tab within that setup.

recently just discovered his clippers, even though ive had them for a while now. really fun stuff

 

I felt so relieved to delete all the Acustica stuff. They were fun to play with, and some emulations really sound good, but there are standard, optimized VSTs doing enough good with a fraction of space and processing. I couldn't get normal non-engineer listeners to appreciate the difference.

I can say that after trying almost every plugin on the market that I could, I regret wasted time doing so, but that's a topic for another thread.

Would you recommend his old ass metric halo strip to anyone just because it's Serban? No, he uses it because he is more familiar with the tools. It goes without say that a tool you are more familiar with is better than one that is slightly handier but you have no experience with, no?

It's one of the best plugins of this category. Why not? It does everything it's meant to do.

 

Used to only use nebula but eventually realized the storage space,cpu usage,bugs,slow project load times ect. wasn't worth the tradeoff when listeners cant tell the difference anyway.

 

I've never seen anyone around me who makes money through music use something like nebula. Name one professional engineer who uses nebula.

I've been using Nebula V3 for few years now. I have to "print" to audio track by track as I still on my 2018 notebook i7 7th gen. So quite slow to start opening Nebula on all channels + bus + master. ( Just independent artist doing my own music not mixing for labels)

Yeah but there likely are better alternatives, that's literally all I'm saying lol. Just because Serban uses it doesn't mean jack shit that it's suited for anyone else.

 

Quite honestly i feel that people that don't like Nebula in general don't know how to work with it (schematics, signal flow and other peculiar stuff you only discover reading the manuals) or don't know the restrictions and time consumption spent on analog gear in trade of sound quality. Once you know how to build your sound with the libraries, fall in love with it, things like CPU consumption, HD space and loading time (which for me is not that long compared to iLoked stuff) stop being a issue. Of course, you may not give a shit for this, and you're not wrong for that if you're satisfied with the sound that are coming out of your speakers when you're mixing. But for me:

I started using Nebula 2 in 2009 while I was working full time in Atlanta with Jazze Pha, then later Raekwon, and others in the Atl. It was the only plugin at that time that would allow me to get similar results to what I was getting night after night working in Zac's, Stankonia, 11th Streeet, or DARP on SSL 4000's and 90000's in full analog rooms. I was later in LA working at Bill's Place with K Briscoe and the Outsiderz and Nebula was used there and that was 2012. I was jumping in and out of Atlantic Malibu, Boom Boom room, Interscope, and a few other rooms nightly that were full of hardware, but Nebula back at my rig helped me even the playing field.

I still use Nebula in a hybrid setup to this day for specific tasks I don't have the hardware for or can't find on Access Analog.
I mix into my API with select hardware in a hybrid method using the best of both the analog and software world and I would not want to be without Nebula as a tool any time soon.

2 on that. And some workflow you are common with, if you don't mind. There are a lot of people here that seems to love this tech, but it's not an easy learning curve. I'd really enjoy reading more experienced people than me that also shares the same taste regarding audio software.
