VSX is better than sonarworks in my experience. I actually got the platinum in the sale. You dont need all those rooms, but i wanted the mike dean and howie room and buying them separately would almost equal to the platinum. 400$ is not cheap. Its up to you. If you have the budget, get them. If thats a big purchase, then idk.

I have a well treated room, but need something to use while on my laptop / on the go. I have been using acustica sienna, but its so cpu intensive i dont use it. in my limited tests on a friends computer, vsx is much more cpu friendly.

from what i know about it, it's a "low quality" product, the results might be good but it's easy to break, even the newest batches that are supposed to fix the issues do break, and this comes directly from the actual users of the products because it's mainly plastic, what i would suggest is something in the range of beyerdynamics or audio technica, the results would be far superior...

if you use facebook, join their group and read the comments, if you're satisfied, go for it, otherwise there are other options in that price range.

if you do dance music then i suggest audio technica, M50x or M60x are one of the best out there, if you like to go the Beyer route then DT 900 PRO X or DT-1990 Pro 250 Ohm, depends on your budget.

Try Realphones, there's 41 days trial period, support for your cans too. K712 are fine cans tho, so Realphones should give you good results.

Been with them since they first came out with Founders Edition. Best and my favorite investment made for my music. I use VSX for 90% of my mixing then go to my monitors to finish off.

Realphones isn't just headphones correction software, it's VSX with any cans essentially, correction is part of calibration, so you can use their emulations as they intended.

I own VSX but I'm recently using my HD600 more and more with Soundid and a quick eq correction (low end)
VSX is really something else. It's wonderful and really weird at the same time. it takes a lot of time to get used too, but I've done some really good mixes that translate well with VSX. The bass translation is really really good.

But now I'm very tired of the "vsx" sound. it can be quite phasey. that might change with v5 when it comes out so i guess having some alternatives is a good idea.
I bought realphones ultimate because I initially thought it was "game-changer" but I just don't gel with it anymore. Will sell my license.
Sienna was a joke imho, but to each their own.

I own the platinum version with the latest headphone revision (they added a metal strip to prevent easily snapping). I think it's great. I only needed few rooms, but the bundle was about the same price as my desired selection. It really helps checking your mix for unexpected 'boominess' as I don't have bass traps. I can also better separate kick and bass frequencies (and even let them blend to some extent)

Systemwide for Mac is good so since I don't have to use the DAW!

VSX Version 4.0 is a nice free update.

I've owned the platinum bundle since the beginning (feels like a few years already). I was hoping more rooms would have been released since then, but I should be content with getting the job done.

As for OTHER headphones, I think if you have a good quality pair that is "flat" and "clear", you may be able to use just the software. I tested with JBL headphones and did not have any 'disappointments'. When you know your phones well, its just an adjustment in your brain.

what appeals to me about vsx is the club room in it.
usual story,my mix might sound really good on my headphones, but pure crap if played in a club.
    this bound to help considerably

I have heard/read good things about Sound ID Reference, but I chose VSX because of recommendation from a local sound engineer and the UI seemed more appealing. SonarWorks is a respectable company so I may give it a try sometime.

VSX is great. I've just been getting into for the last year. I have Focal's also, so I switch back and forth. But I love VSX.

Any tool better than the one you are using is great, and helpful. But this is not going to happen. People made vinyl dance music records for decades without room correction software. If your mix is not good in the club, it's probably because it's not good anywhere else, either.
