I have a recording where the guitar was recorded or edited oddly. The artist stopped the note too early or cut the silent part out too early. The problem is that the guitar sound ends too suddenly, It should ring a bit further.

You can hear it here. The guitar plays twice, at the end of each melody you can hear the sound of the guitar is strangely cut off. How can I improve this? Tried reverb but no success. Keely Compressor might be able to sustain it, that pedal has very strong sustain, I don't know how it can do that, but a similar solution would be useful in the DAW. I use Logic anyway.

    The guitar alone:

compression! try that first, dont forget to gain compensate! ( i mean when u compress, u lose some dbs of volume )

EDIT: to compensate, make it with the context now u have it! , or do it alone, then hear it in the context... dont know.

if this cant be enough, check to add some "presence" with a simple eq!

I'd try drawing a gain envelope for the last note first.

If there just isn't enough left of the original note, I'd split off the last note, move it into a new project, time stretch (with an envelope ideally) the sample (with pitch preservation on), and re-import and crossfade with the original.

TBH there are not too many options.
You could try to increase the track length at a certain part by time stretching it.
If it's only a few % at the end it should not be noticeable and fit well into the mix since other sounds will mask it.

Transient Designer plugins have Sustain, Hold, and Release parameters. You could lengthen the tail.

You could convert the line into Midi and add some audio playing the same notes longer underneath; using another VST instrument.

You could use a delay plugin. You could chop it up and throw it into a sampler. You could use a Reverb throw (automation) on the last notes.

Put the Wave on an audio channel in Logic. Click the wave block, hit E to go into Logic's wave editor. Enable Flex (the bowtie icon). You can change it to Flex Pitch or another setting, and pull that slice forward.

Big edit: nevermind, I'm a dumbass. The trick is for Twin 3, for some reason I thought it was not the synth. Transient design it is, then.

IIRC Dan Worrall has a trick for this using one of the Fabfilter plugins (don't remember which one). Check the Fabfilter channel, it's their anniversary video.

You could use Selection Based Processing on only the tail. Reverb or whatever you want.

In Cubase you'd use VariAudio and simply draw out the last note/chord as needed.

In Logic, click E for Editor, again bow tie icon for Flex time. Enable Flex, hit yes. Drag that section's marker however you want. 2 seconds of work.

Dan Worrall shows the trick here (at 7:52) :

Pretty sure that was intentional to add more contrast between that part and the drum hits that come after it, you can tell by the way those are accentuated, these micro-pauses to call it something are pretty common in this kind of music in some shape or form. if anything i think you're supposed to make it even more obvious. You can hear what i mean here around 1:05

But if you really want to sustain it, i think the best way here in particular is to cut the last delay, match the delay with a plugin and use it to add delay to the final note but with a bit more feedback (so you get more repetitions). Or just copy and paste the last delay and add it with less volume.

I decided to go with the method to add a delay to the sliding at the end of the melodies.

Thanks for all the useful suggestions!

I would have just punched in a new guitar note. For that one note on such a clean sound you probably even could have just used a sample and it would have sounded fine, it would have been easy to match the sounds...
I like what the guy did in the first place :dunno:

It sounds like it was a creative decision to cut off the note, though I would have let it go on for a tiny bit longer for a better fit for the groove. A tempo delay without much feedback should do the trick...which you are doing.

Unfortunately not, or very likely not. I know the creator very well, he is used to clean up silence parts in his tracks, that means zeroing out volume in those parts. I think what happened here is that he set the selection for zeroing out too wide in the rush, and the last segments of the fadeout went missing.
