Where did the feature go to have a compact browser font, the default settings are so huge, feels like im cramped in between all the windows.

Right click on the tab of the browser (it's a per-tab setting) and choose 'Zoom'

i appreciate the chord progression feature, it does show me new ideas for chords, which i havnt tried yet.

other than that i wont use FL, will stick to my free AI Live.

did they ever bring back being able to view all file types in the file browser window ?

that was the greatest thing ever for drag dropping nki into kontakt , or dropping presets onto vst/i .

Kontakt does support drag and drop, but none of the recent synths does support preset drop.

so far i could see the browser does no longer show any files, but i also havnt used any nkis in a longer time, presets always via inbuild synth browser.

I am a permanent FL12 user. I like the FL workflow, it's flexible. First time I tried Bitwig I almost had a panic attack realizing every synth I load in has to have its own track and I cant just layer two synths in one pattern like I'm used to (though I realize this is the de facto standard). Contrary to the cliché of insanely complicated FL playlists... my project playlists are quite compact and logical (to me at least). I can arrange things just how i want and there's a lot of creative ways to tuck things in. I'm not sure I'd be able to do that with other DAWs.

But I'm stuck with FL12 and refuse to upgrade. I still use 32-bit plugins and FL12 has native support for both 32-bit and 64-bit plugins through separate executables, and a built-in bridge as needed. I'm used to it, if I know I'll be using modern plugins I launch 64-bit FL, if I know I'm using older plugins, I use 32-bit FL. It's not a problem.

FL 20 killed the native 32-bit version, and with it killed some built in synths that I happen to use.

Then FL 21 decided online DRM was necessary, which I am against. If I was going to ever pay them, this killed that chance completely.

And now I'm hearing they're going subscription-based? Well now I'm glad I never gave them a cent.

Maybe if it ever gets pirated I'll try it, but I'd sooner switch to Bitwig, Reaper or even Renoise and see if I can adjust, or just die stuck with FL12. Basically only DAWs with good 32-bit VST2 bridges are on the menu. I'd rather decompile these plugins into CLAP ports one by one rather than give them up.

nobody forces you to upgrade - yes, but you can also have more than one version installed.
i have 20.8.4 installed still and now a recent uptodate build with all the new features, which i wont use to full.

dropping 32bit was a good step to clean up legacy code, it has to be done in some way.
And i mean, are there still people using 32bit plugins? If you want to, just use a bridge.

Online Login was introduced bcs FL license system was long time already breached, not to mention FL projects where hacked to make the updated license system dead.

I cant blame FL for offering a Cloud sub, as long as - as i wrote before - we keep our permanent licenses of FL and our lifetime updates, im good with it.

Cant work with Bitwig aswell, the GUI is just to much for and the lack of actual useful and creative effect devices, i dont like.
On top of that Bitwigs weird way to offer you 12 months updates and then you have to sub to keep updated. I think we discussed this in depth in another topic a while ago, think it was that topic about how AVID is restructuring. Well.

Just because it's 32-bit doesn't mean it should be discarded. Many plugins that may be only 32-bit are timeless and good on CPU and load fast (though the GUIs can be a bit tiny for people with dense high DPI displays, but that's an invented problem).

Bridges are fine, but AFAIK Cubase, Ableton and Studio One do not have their own bridge, and I've heard jBridge is not as compatible as native bridges (are there better plugin bridges than jBridge?). I just deal with the DAWs that have their own bridges, such as FL, Reaper, Bitwig, Renoise and even OpenMPT IIRC (free tracker).

I just don't like saying "I can't" - there are tons and tons of 32-bit plugins that work totally fine, and I hate the idea of using something that is going to tell me I can't use it.

how long is the 64bit standard commercial out? its been 15 years.

DDMF has a bridge which works also fine, been using it for the old vanguard plugin, it does open it fine.

of course there a lot of 32bit plugins, but 32bit is simply old and the code base gets cleaned up as they dropped it.

i know we lost for example Wasp and WaspXT, sadly

also we have Steinberg to blame, killing VST2 aswell, so we can be lucky that VST2 is still used in some products, if it would go after steinberg they would enforce VST3.

the chord progression generator is actual i great tool, alone for that its okay to keep an uptodate version of FL on your HDD.

i generated a lot chord progressions, ended up keeping one in like 20. but thats okay. (Maybe the model needs more training?!)
its supposed to be a basis for a track idea, which can based to midi and then i import it into Live.

everything else i dont really like in FL2024.

What I would like to know is how to NOT upgrade to 24 and just maintain the status quo. I don't want or need chord progression suggestions, samples or any of that puffy floating cloud stuff IL is hawking. I just want the samo samo horrible audio recording workflow with the good piano roll that I'm used to since FL version 5. Will I get sucker punched when I try to update?

They are unnecessarily complicating the software. Many of its things are redundant and do nothing but make it crowded.

I would never in a million years believe what Thanos had to say, even about so mundane a topic as FL 24. I thought you'd know better!
