I'm just discovering the topic, I've made several discoveries thanks to this, notably 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1,

also I'm asking myself an additional question: can we trust this kind of opensource application? "Destroy W10 Spying"

I knew very well that Microsoft sells our personal data etc and that all Windows Systems have the famous back doors to be able to access our systems but I did not know that it was possible to deactivate all of this, my machine is rather old now, a removal of Wupdate and many other system tools does not risk causing instability ? or a detriment of performance or anything els ? all this raises serious questions for me, waiting for your clarification

In fact, I was wonderin' if it would be OSX compatible too.

Edit: Apparently 0.0.0.0 could also be used on a Mac

You can open the text file and copy the list and just paste it into terminal below the list you already have.

While it turns out to be very useful for porn, I get goosebumps when I see the word "fake news". Who decides what is true and what is fake, do you know? I do - whoever has the most power. For example, if a site is linked to government agencies, they are usually said to be accredited.
So, Only they , in theory, would be allowed to simultaneously tell both the truth (the truth does'nt exist) and also fake-news...

    True, true.
Alas you can review the list and the sources of the hosts are declared so you can double check.
It's a very rare occurrence to me that I get to a site that is unreachable  while wanting to read it: do you have any example (eg. legit ( for you ) news site that is black listed)?
    I'm quite curious.
    Regards.

For editing the Hostsfile (Windows) I would recommend HostsMan.. I've been using this for ages, and it just works..
Regarding MY Hosts-file.. It is a mess, it is long, and some of the entries are probably hopelesly obsolete..

Isn't it the case that you use 127.0.0.1 for certain apps so that they can communicate internally with other apps? E.g. smart EQ... And for everything else just 0.0.0.0

Do you have some way of linking individual entries in your hosts file to specific processes? Blocking in hosts is global, meaning no application on your computer can connect to that address on the internet. It is not application specific. That is what a rule-based software firewall is for.

I think you asked your question the wrong way. Most applications you will run do not allow user- specified changes to their networking settings. Some do, but an audio plugin is generally not going to be one of them. It's usually coded into their program and you are stuck dealing with the ramifications of whatever they pick to use. Hosts file entries have nothing to do with it.
