If you run it on a machine alone, of course.

I didn't use ubuntu, because before doing this video I have tried: Ubuntu Studio 20/21, Ubuntu 20/21 and Lubuntu 20/21. Their kernel is too much demanding and the performance is way worst than Windows. Fedora instead, until now seems to run really smoothly and more that Windows 10 when virtualized.

Don't get me wrong too, did you try it?

I don't know if this is the best solution, until now I didn't find any better, did you?
I started this project in November, I am trying to do my best and the only limit is the time.

Do you have an idea of how much time it required to do this video?
Installing the systems between 15/20 times, find all the right settings, doing the video, editing it etc etc etc...
What I would like to say is: please, don't have every time this impatience of answering and give your opinion about everything when you didn't tried it yet and you don't know how it works compared to other solutions.
Do it and give me feedbacks, collaborate in a constructive way please, really it will be a great help to the entire community. If it is worst or better, prove it.

After you tried it, I will be happy to discuss of any possible technical aspect, improvement and fix and go over a new solution if it is better, because it is something that I want to use for myself.

There a many linux distros, the Hype now is all for Alpine, but there are many missing dependencies and it will require much more time than doing this. Would you help me try it?

As a side note, this is just the first part of a series of video, and it will be a long series of videos covering other important topics. I understand that you can be impatient and it is ok, because it shows your interest, but "Rome wasn't build in one day". Give time to time.

    See first answer.

I'd like to expand more on this subject: First VMWare then Linux then Windows over Crossover is this really effectively?

Well, what is the difference between using Parallels then Windows then a Windows VST?
There is CrossOver in the middle.
But you didn't take into consideration that CrossOver runs much better on Linux than MacOS because the whole wine environment was created specifically for Linux and only after it was ported to MacOS.

This means that the VSTS are running like Natives inside Fedora/CrossOver (well they also do in MacOS/CrossOver, but on Fedora the experience is just awesome).

This seems to be a solution that's ideal for my Logic X workflow. Going to give it a shot later. Quick question: What is the RAM ands CPU overhead running a plug like Krotos Dehumanizer? Im on a 12 core 5.1 3.33Ghz with 128 gigs of RAM

Thank you for sharing all this new knowledge and also taking the time of preparing all videos.

Can someone recommend a few old good PC VST plugins that are not available on Mac at this point?

I have everything set up and ready to go.

    Thanks in advance.

Couldnt resist trying this out with Nexus 4. The Crossover method didn't work due to the lack of full openGL abilities. The UI controls wouldn't move... Using the Fedora on Parallels method worked like a charm... This made my day.

You need to send him an email. He mentions where to email him on Crossgridder Github page.

I tried running some plugins which are known to not work with CrossGridder through using their preference files and disabling OpenGL. Unfortunately, no matter what I tried, the plugins did open and scan, but the UIs were white.

does anyone get to work with the plugins while tracking? my M1 macbook keeps overloading (ableton, using audient id4) if i have a buffer of under 512.. and at that buffer, the latency is too high to do real time tracking.

Can you give some detailed steps & procedures of what you did? It'd be really helpful to me. Which dlls or strings?

You are running a DAW to Windows "vm" instance with Audiogridder in it, and connecting a the client/server; and you are trying to apply realtime effects to what you are playing and/or recording? That is a recipe for latency by itself, and on my cpu I wouldn't even try it.
512 would be better than I would have guessed. You might have to record a dry track and print the effect to it, after recording it.

yeah, i know. i mostly use them as mixing tools now, instead of tracking. But i have seen people be able to use it with acceptable latency as well. well, maybe someday!

    Interested as well!

If you could share information about how you have managed to do this, that would help some of us and the developer a lot, thanks in advance!
