Nah... Succumbing to linux is basically cutting off your own nose to spite your face. It's a useless os IMO if your goal is production based. If one is more prone to enjoying messing around with the os more than getting actual production work completed then linux is probably your cup of tea. To be perfectly honest, from a network standpoint, linux is no more secure than any other os aside from the fact that it doesn't come with the entire bunch of crapware like in a OOTB windows or macos that has to be disabled and silenced beforehand by the user. Besides the best stripped and secure installation ISO's for Win10/11 are all still free downloads at present.

i use windows 7 on a network disabled laptop or 3. most people are afraid for some reason to disconnect there computers from the web. They have been told they have to have the latest computer and o./s or "BAD THINGS" (trademark microsoft ) will hapen...

its all FUD, fear uncertainty and doubt, the classic microsoft marketing.Got to have an intel I300 @ 9,000,000 Terrahertz and full 4 wheelhub cap 72 bit memory...

Most folks read the web, play music and download porn. guess what LInux does that too...

I have 30 year old guitars that still make great music, I also have 20 year old computers that still make music. if getting raped by the internet scares anyone. disable networking - just fixed your operating system and made it virus and hacker proof, no charge.

so we can either continue to ride the microsoft big brother doom train, or get off at linux station. you get enough linux user base and THEY WILL PORT software to it...

LInux doesn't slam the cpu like windows, you can run a decent linux build on a 10 year old laptop. the only reason Windows keeps updating is to force people to buy new hardware to run it,. you'd think people would figure it out, but most folks just want what ever jim's drinking cause otherwise I'd have to read and actually understand what i'm buying and look a squirrell.....

so i use both linux and windows and its okay, and i won't be buying or even borrowing anymore microsoft products..

but thats just me,. i was a system admin in another life. I understand whats under the hood.

Dude... I wasted so much time in my life screwing with Windows, finding proper drivers for every piece of hardware, disabling-enabling MS shyte, editing registry, installing "lite" versions, making my own "lite" version of XP and W7... I know Windows better than Bill Gates. It used to be a nice OS once. Linux replaced it for me, brought back simplicity and XP like eXPerience with modern features.

I installed this Debian OS Linux *in2013*! Let that sink in. From Debian 7 to 8-9-10-11 and 12 last year. It only takes 20 minutes to upgrade it to a newer version and just a bit longer to install a fresh one that works properly immediately after installing it and needs minimal adjustment, but I simply didn't need to do it all these years! It survived changing the PC and 3 boot drives. Windows has to be installed fresh on a new PC and man it takes time...

Windows installation starts when you install it. :) Debian Linux is generally ready to use when it's installed. Of course, you need to adjust some things, but usually not much. It liberated me, man. As an IT tech, I love it and appreciate it for what it is and how it works so much. It gives you complete freedom of choice. Linux gives you that safe and cosy feeling online that nothing can touch you... ransomware, malware, virii and shyt... No Antivirus... just adblock and no-script. When was the last time you spent hours installing new Windows, enabling-disabling MS shyt for hours, searching for drivers for some device? I still remember it, because I do it often enough, not with my computers, though.

It's not my business what OS everybody uses, 'cause it is theirs and their responsibility for their own shyt. Just wanted to tell a different story, from a different angle, from what people usually say. Linux is difficult and complicated to use my arse. It's the opposite in my experience, but you have to learn to do things Linux way and forget the Windows way. It's MS propaganda, mostly coming from MS shills who keep propagating that lie, or people who are just incompetent computer users who get frustrated with anything different than Windows. MacOS is a better and easier to use OS than Windows, but it's also owned by a pack of pricks that keep raping it and its users... therefore, to sum it up:

No OS that everybody uses should be owned by a corporation. <-- full stop. It's starting to reek of totalitarianism. Especially Windows.

i disagree. Mac enslaves you to Apple ecosystem. more freedom in Windows. Most freedom in Linux.

Important to note, this Recall feature only work in "Copilot+ PCs" with the AI chip. if your PC is not "Copilot+ PC", recall will not work

ZorinOS and Mint and Ubuntu have come a long way, always looking better and improving with more and more windows programs compatibility, the sooner the software developers wake up and stop licking the shit off of microshit's ass and make Linux the new standard the better for everyone.

All corporations will do their best to enslave you to their ecosystem. That's my main point. Cheers!

But unfortunately developers are slaves to their ecosystem, too, and money is easier to make with Windows and MacOS, so we have this closed feedback loop feeding itself and ignoring everything else. We users just use what provides us with best tools for the job... generally.

Just install a GhostSpectre version of windows and you won't have to worry about any of that. Been using his windows for years now. No bloatware, no updates, only the ones he releases and that shit won't be in any of his versions.

My personal DAW is installed on a CRAY Supercomputer interfaced with the NSA's data storage farm with thousands of zetta-bytes of storage... blah blah blah :rofl:Kinda hard finding drivers for that one but what the hay it sounded cool for a minute...

But yeah. I hear ya. I'm still running win7 on my inet facing boxen because its easier to control and patches MUST be made available by the OEM for any ACTUAL major threats (I have installed 3 of them since they shit canned "support") - they have to be installed piecemeal but what the fuck. Makes one wonder what the hell they are schlepping every "patch-tuesday" with those ginormous amounts of "updates" most of which are worthless junk guaranteed to break your OS or push crap-ware to your machine and exchange telemetry on usage data and surfing habits...

So many make themselves marks to mickeysofts ponzi and scare tactics regarding those "latest updates" it just makes me laugh... Just spend a couple of hundred $ for a decent speed older beater box and put win7, XP or hell even win98 on it if your feeling real nostalgic and use it for your dedicated surfing machine. You can truss it up with all manner of firewalls, A/V, malware killers, etc and turn OFF all the garbage ware you don't need. As far as I'm concerned these OS's were made for being reverse engineered to make them private, safe and bloat-free to use on the internet or in an offline production environment. The rest of your machines should live OFFLINE and safe from the prying eyes who have no business being up in your shit.

    my speculations are,
    - Windows users took a while to realize they can bypass W11 requirements on W11 23H2 and also they aren't buying new overpriced unstable hardware when used market is full of perfectly okay PCs
    - MacOS users are bored with lack of Apple's development, basically everyone who wanted Apple Silicon Mac got some (because 2020 basic M1 doesn't really fall behind) and iPadOS isn't taken into these charts, Apple keeps pushing iPads as computer replacements, so they shouldn't be surprised Macs are falling down

that is a hue problem for the linux argument!

i cant simply say, i want to use Ableton on Linux, there are no drivers for my audio interface, Ableton doesnt proper work, none of my paid and heavy used plugins do work anymore ...

so we are kinda bounded to our OSes in some sense, the only way is to disable windows update and stay longer on older OS versions, to avoid getting a forced version migration.

but then if buying a new machine, MS and other actively remove older ISOs or render newer ISOs not installable, webarchive has older windows ISOs, but its so hard to find the right ones.

And even if you found older ones, then you have to pick the correct edition, turn bloatware and MS survialance off, thats so mentally draining.

And we cant hope for MS to make a step back or offer editions with that crapload.

Even promising to turn it off, when you install it, i wouldnt trust it. They simply change one value in an Update and the shit is back - i have seen it before, with MS having Remote access for updates activate and turning windows features on and again.

    yep

I agree how many times I've spent killing all in W10 crapware at initial setup and was so happy of me...

Months later the crap was bruteforced back because if you install any windows on a PC you install a Tunnel that goes right into the Devil Own ASS E.T.

It's just like farming you do your best to get the best out of the soil...but then some weather shit spreads some Gadreelian BS all over and yo must start all over again as a slave....

SLAVE to Gadreel or the AI .... no EXIT no ESC_APE from the EDEN OS

    PeaceR

THIS is exactly the reason for completely disabling the autonomous "windows updater" services. Once disabled it can't hurt you anymore. Internet facing remote access should be shit-canned at the firewall. In fact that was one of the recent fixes I applied to all my win7 internet boxen (post "end-of-support" in fact. They are required to patch major affecting threats no matter what their corporate "support policy" is). Remote access services are fine for local LAN access however, in fact I couldn't live without it.

Linux is not so safe as you think:

Linux, the most widely used open source operating system in the world, narrowly escaped a massive cyber attack over Easter weekend, all thanks to one volunteer.

The backdoor had been inserted into a recent release of a Linux compression format called XZ Utils, a tool that is little-known outside the Linux world but is used in nearly every Linux distribution to compresses large files, making them easier to transfer. If it had spread more widely, an untold number of systems could have been left compromised for years.
