SoundID is great, especially with the wet/dry slider, as you can really dial in the sound. I sometime use it with Can Opener using conservative settings when I am listening for pleasure.

BTW the NDH 30 and HD 490 Pro share the same driver.

Interesting, also the price of the HD490 (389€) compared to the NDH30 (584€, had still paid over 600€) is impressive.

They don't sound exactly the same as they have different voicings, how different I don't know.

I use a combo of Aueze LCD-2 Classic for open back and Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro for closed back. All bases covered with those two.

I think some of the views are off because people don't realise they are pro studio headphones that have been designed to make dealing with problem frequencies easier. With SoundID correction you have two pairs of headphones in one, and the mix pads are flat from 20Hz too 20KHz. I am seriously tempted by these, but I want to make sure I haven't overlooked something better. Anyway, I've got plenty of research to do after reading all of these replies.

No love for HD650 or LCD-X which are often mentioned on places like Gearspace?

A small update. I went for the HD 490 PRO, they are tuned for identifying problem frequencies, but also EQ very well. 160 Ohm is also bonus for applying EQ correction, etc. Definitely one to audition if you are in the market for a new set of modern headphones.

Any recommendations for some closed-back Senny's? I was looking at the Neumann NDH 20, but they cost more than the HD 490.

they put together decent for that money and the sound is good for that price range.
If you need something quick and cheap they are the way to go.

AKG K712s are mine. They are $700 headphones now but they weren't when I got them during the pandemic. They've almost doubled in price since then.
