The GPD DUO is an upcoming laptop with a 35-watt processor, a 13.3 inch OLED display, and a second 13.3 inch OLED display that can be extended upward to give you more screen space when you need it.

Thanks to a tri-fold design with two hinges (including a 360 degree hinge for the upper display), you can also fold that second screen down so that it rests over the first screen either facing upward or downward when the laptop is closed, letting you choose between closing it like a normal laptop or folding it so the screen is accessible in tablet mode.

at this point, I'd rather see dual-display laptop without any physical keyboard or touchpad, of which one screen would have proper haptic touch display,
but it's an uneasy tech to develop yet

according to the article one or both screens have 10 point touch per microsoft spec for their touch devices, whatever that is don't own a microsoft touch device. also the screens can be folded so the device becomes a touch tablet.

I tried a touch screen for using plugins with reaper hoping to be able to use my fingers instead of a mouse and it was terrible. That was a standard touch interface on windows 7. haven't tried windows 8 which is optimized for touch. also tried some Motion Computing devices.
They work great as drawing tablets with a stylus,

these go pretty cheap around 100$ or so used. they were used heavily by police in USA so lots of them around on used market.
they have wacomm drivers built in so great for drawing and painting.

because people want multi-touch, fingering all over the screen, but vast majority of software expects exactly one mouse doing one thing at a time

Having both screens permanently attached to the keyboard looks like it might be a bit clunky and limit usage scenarios. I prefer the look and utility of the Asus Zenbook Duo 2024 which has dual-touchscreen 120hz OLED displays with a detachable bluetooth keyboard. Strongly considering a purchase after have a brief demo in store, very impressive workflow options.

the idea is you always have 2 screens, so easier to carry than a laptop and an extra monitor. Thats the theory, who can say how it will work until is in production and we can get a hands on.

Considering I mentioned having used and being close to purchasing one of the available dual-touchscreen laptops, I'm not sure I understand this reply, but excuse me if I've misunderstood.

Lenovo has the 9i, but this Asus is what I was talking about. The keyboard magnetically attaches to the bottom screen for use like a regular laptop and feels a lot better than I was expecting, but the ability to detach it and have the screens positioned in different orientations is very flexible to me.

my point was the original post we are in is for the GPD dual screen, it is not yet available. It is vaporware until it is available for purchase so no one has tried it out to see if it works better or worse then existing products. The concept is a dual screen laptop, that converts into a tablet as well.

who knows how well it will work? It was just a heads up to say, this is interesting. maybe it might work for portable daw, since lots of screen space for plugins and tracking...

No worries, clearly my mistake for mentioning currently available products, in the same category, with comparable features closer to what you and tzzsmk expressed a preference for. Like I said, excuse me for my misunderstanding.

    Thanks for the heads up.

no problem, just wanted to clarify. I think you are probably making a good choice by buying a product that you've had a chance to have a hands on with. Asus makes good stuff and is way more innovative and interesting than dell and hp etc. I own a couple asus computers and like them a lot..

Thanks for jumping In, I wasn't aware of the detachable screen models, that is probably much better for general functionality. I just worry one more thing to lose...
