Over many years I have never shared my interest in music with my significant other. She (and there have been a few) has never found my music to be of any interest. When I say I have never shared my interest, it is not for the lack of trying. I try to play any recent composition, but it rarely illicits any response.
I can only surmise that I suffer from a sense of self grandeur or that the ever present "she" (over the decades) is quite right and I am, mediocre.

 

I've made music for 20 years off and on, and yeah, similar experience here. Until I recently made a song specifically "for her" and sent her the Ableton session WAV/MP3 mixdown one early morning on a whim. She played it on her way to work and cried in the parking lot at her office.

I usually make hip/hop, lo-fi, and electronic for "me", but have been venturing into sample-free cinematic original scoring, and that's what resonated. Always got to know our audience/tribe I guess.

Or maybe you suck... Probably not. Write your partner a special piece and see if they respond. Either way, music is therapy and magic, so someone will dig it and be moved eventually. It's powerful stuff. Peace

I really wouldn't mind if she didn't have an interest in music we are all individuals and may have different interests, beside the dog and cat love singing along on some tunes, but they can be difficult to please and are real judgemental critics.

It's not like I'm here today and gone tomorrow, dude said I've got at least a bit more than when I was diagnosed with the new treatments like monoclonal antibody therapy as opposed to chemo which suck the life out of you. No cure but prolonged existence is OK with me. The kid should have me around a while.

The only thing that drive my partner mad is that my reluctance to release professionally what I do. So I guess I'm lucky on that department.

So sorry to hear that @Lois Lane ... My mother is on that therapy with a pancreatic one and she is having a good quality of life overall. Much, much better than with chemo. She is in it for three years now and it was supposed to be out long time ago cause of the nature of the cancer itself. Let's hope medical science will keep bringing new stuff.

My ex mostly liked what i would do at the time, but never liked what i would listen to.. We couldn't really do the same type of parties.
Now, my hand digs everything as i do ! So no problem anymore.

However, my wife divorced me along with the dog, and my mum died, so I'm thinking of changing the genre.

Maybe just electronica, without the industrial part. Women just don't get that one... hmmm but since it's all over, maybe boost it to 11 instead and go with style when the time comes? Death Hard Core Industrial Goth or something? Questions.
