Hey guys and gals! I bought a new Akai MPC One+ a couple of weeks ago and I've been trying to learn it. I made this beat on it. My first beat! It's not much, but it's mine :).

I usually make progressive/melodic techno, so this is a huge stretch for me, haha.

Thank you for listening and for the thoughts you share on it.

I made an account just to say it sounds really good!! Very dark, sounds like what you'd hear if you were to walk around the streets from the movie The Crow

krameri, writing music for the gloomy ferry, uh
feels very bloody mary so i scream three times
i feel the devastation and it freezes time in my mind
    i kinda like it here
i feel safer looking at my fears
so i sit back with a fat sack and some cognac
looking at these texts hoes on my jockstrap cause i aint call em back
shes not my wife acting like im her life
i just want it for the night
break me off something like a kit kat
treat that ass like bongos when i hit that
shes bloody mary and this slick track
makes me wanna kick back and float down river styx

    --------------------------------------------------------------

i dig it, made me want to write lyrics too it and im not a rapper. really reminds me of trip-hop, the whole atmosphere and gloom plus the boom bap, even the slight jazzy keys. if you havent listened too it, you might be into, this is totally the essence of the genre

i like it though and i like youre stepping out of your comfort zone, its your first track and only a minute so, not much to say; but its definitely a vibe. something about the tone of those horns sounds cheap though to my ears, when the rest of the beat comes in it sounds better; but when it starts off it sounds very low quality, since its in the bass, that frequency makes it almost like sandpaper - but i like the energy of the horns, has real feeling. if the texture was smoother it would be more aesthetically pleasing and match the other timbres its kinda ugly; but overall i dig it as a whole

Are you serious !!?? That was so sick ... I am a huge fan. Thanks for sharing that I love the line " I feel safer looking at my fears" like that's so deep because I think of how fear makes us feel unsafe but that's even more comforting to you, and bloody marry three times. ... are you a genius do you have more work to listen to???

I think it's one of the best songs on here from all users. It's simple but complex, almost ambient but just at the edge of darkness. Anyone who says noise or something is obviously blind to ART true art like your self. I would buy a beat like this for easy 2k but right now I'm not buying any more stuff since I lost my job but it's really cool.

Will y'all please indulge me here for a couple of minutes? I lengthened the track and added a few new things. I think I might have made it a bit more downtempo and strayed from the traditional boom bap I started out with. The last thing I added was the bass guitar (Kontakt). It sounds to me like it's muddy with the bass geetar in it, I dunno. I don't play bass, haha. Will you please let me know?

    Many thanks!

    Heya Grape Ape,

Thanks for your thoughts. And the rap/verse, you included is great! About the brittle, cheap, shitty sounding intro: the tone is meant to be destroyed, dystopian, narrow, thin, and such. After that, eight bars after the start, it should sound like it just bloomed into the full-frequency, stereo richness I intended. :)
