Installing vintage tuners on a telecaster

  1. Ok, so it looks like I'm going to have to buy some more bushings as the ones on the Baja will not come out, any recommendations ideally vintage style?

It is confirmed that the Peg Hole Diameter on the neck is .358” (9.09 mm) - https://www.fender.com/en-GB/parts/...intage-frets---maple/0991202921.html?rdl=true

  2. I have a set of
Hello, just to confirm, when you say outer diameter of the bushing you're mean the shaft, not to top of the bushing that is seen on the outside of the headstock

  3. Hello,

Please let me know if any of this is wrong

https://www.fender.com/en-GB/parts/...neck-21-vintage-frets---maple/0991202921.html - Vintage C Neck (Peg hole Diameter of .358")

    https://www.fender.com/en-GB/parts/...le-tuning-machine-bushing-set/0994946000.html - (Outside diameter of .357')

If you can find any other bushings, that will fit from Fender please let me know.

Hoping the Baja tuning heads will fit on this

    @Vincent Price

Lets reset the conversation brother. The last thing I want to do is give you wrong information. The serial # 0141502307 you provided in post #20 of this thread is for a Deluxe Roadhouse Strat, made in 09/2010. So I need to be sure your neck is really a Classic Players Baja Tele neck, or if your guitar is what could be described as a "FrankenTele".

    1. Just to be clear. Exactly what neck are you 100% for sure certain you are buying? Please give me the FMIC part number.

    2. Are you 100% certain the serial on the head stock of the guitar you are taking the tuners & bushings from is serial # 0141502307?

    3. Are you 100% certain the guitar you are pulling the tuners & bushings from are factory stock & have never been replaced or upgraded?

After you can restate & verify 100% these three questions, we can proceed. Below is a FMIC part reference to a Classic Player Baja Tele & a visual guide I made to explain the areas of the bushing. Since you already have a matched set of tuners & bushings. The only thing we need to be concerned about moving forward are the 3 questions I asked above, the diameter of the peg holes of the new neck you are buying & the outer diameter of the bushings you will be installing into the new neck.

  6. that is the model number for the Baja 0141502307, use my serial number

Got it!!! Okay so if you are buying this - https://www.fender.com/en-GB/parts/...neck-21-vintage-frets---maple/0991202921.html - & you're installing the tuner/bushing set what you already have from the Baja YOU SHOULD BE GOOD!!! It might take a small amount of light sanding the peg holes in the new neck, but again you want some resistance when installing bushings. NOT an extreme amount of resistance enough to crack the headstock, but you should know by feel if it will pass through with some common sense.

You dont need to buy new bushings. Make a jig like the one I posted earlier in this thread. Put a dowel on the underside of the neck that will extract the bushings from the old neck when you tighten the wingnuts.

Or here's another way of removing a stubborn bushing -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEjbekajNc4

If you insist on not taking out the bushings & buying direct replacement bushings. The part number for the bushing set that go with the tuners you have is # 0053020000... The bushings you posted in Reply #23 are NOT an exact fit for the tuners you have & will have too much "play" within the inner diameter....

Why cant you extract the bushings from your old neck using the method I posted above?

  11. besides the baja peg hole according to the calipers is 8.38mm

  12. because I don't know what I'm doing and I don't want to knock of lots of money in one second by messing something up

  13. where did you see the manual for the Baja ? could you please send the link

  14. reading on the calibers is giving me 0.34"

Well that’s why I sent you a video of a guy making a simple jig to extract the bushing. It’s a very low risk procedure. I’d argue there’s a far more greater risk boogering up something by turning a truss rod than there is extracting a bushing using a hand powered simple jig.

  17. trust me I haven't the tools to make a jig

  18. ok, got one out, were measuring 0.361" or 9.16mm
