I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but it will continue to improve. Most people who are alarmed over it aren't worried about its current iteration, they're thinking of the future. Crazy concept, I know.

Sometimes I really can't tell if some of these posts on here are just sad and lonely trolls.

Gen Z here, I actually am a bit worried myself. I'm in a weird spot: what should I study? I do design, but this is going to be inevitably replaced by AI, music? - same story unless you make it big as an artist.

I wish I could dive deeper into programming, but I never really considered. I do think lawyers and therapists are not going away, so...maybe that's the way for me...

I kind of feel like our generation was left to discover "whatever works" on our own, which I think every generation goes through. It is what it is...

I guess the best way to live your life is to constantly improve and adapt.

Ah Ok, thank you. I've been using this since last August, as well as everything mentioned and more. I've been using this type of tech for work for about 5 years now, so I'm always curious when someone mentions something I might have missed.

I also hope they have a sensible approach to the paid version, a credits systems like mvsep would be my preference.

    Appreciate the reply.

Who knows may be the AI is gonna help some engineers to reduce the water consumption on data centers.

The distance bt/ machines and humans are gonna get slim, and slim

Personally, I believe a great deal of this stuff that markets itself as "AI" is snake oil to a large degree. It's all pre-programmed algorithms that respond to a set of pre-determined scans which respond the same every time. TRUE "AI" is evolving and learns and remakes itself to deal with a wide variety of situations. 95% of the stuff that says it's "AI" is simply buzz-worded to merry-go-round the profit sharing tree provided by the "AI" acronym. The newer plugins that employ scanning and evaluative processes in their workings are much more sophisticated than their previous non-evaluative brethren but TRULY "artificially intelligent" they ain't...

We music creators are now experiencing what the portrait painters experienced in the 1800's when the camera came out.

It can't do what we do well, yet and will never replace most of us who do what we do well.

Might be a differant story in 100 years time.

water is not "consumed" in cooling - it is merely used for heat transfer as liquids can hold much more heat than gases like the atmosphere.

Ok. Then be better at making music than the AI.

Not sure if you're aware of this but AI is trained on music created by humans. Imagine that.

Maybe you fit in the category of someone who could have their art easily replaced by AI currently. Maybe you don't perform music live (you know, something that AI won't replace for quite a while).

I'm very sorry that you're doomed because of AI.

Kind of hilarious that this little goober released this video today and it fits my joke criteria for someone saying "we're doomed as musicians because AI".

Btw nothing against this guy personally but he's not a very good musicians and I don't believe he's a particularly good engineer.

Hands on repair is the way to go in my opinion. Mechanics and machinery repair. Installation of household good and appliances (TV's, Soundsystems, Fridges, Flooring). Delivery and trucking. Electricians and plumbers. Plenty of business jobs.

Here's a list of Jobs safe from AI (for now)

I believe it is evaporation cooling which actually does "consume" water as opposed to something like a closed loop AIO cpu cooler.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/04/25/data-centers-drought-water-use/

"Those servers require a great deal of energy and produce a great deal of heat. Without adequate cooling, the servers can overheat, fail or even catch fire. Companies can either use traditional air conditioning to cool the servers, which is expensive, or use water for evaporative cooling. The latter is cheaper, but it also sucks up millions of gallons of water. A large data center, researchers say, can gobble up anywhere between 1 million and 5 million gallons of water a day — as much as a town of 10,000 to 50,000 people."

so put them in cooler climates like Norway with lots of water. This ain't rocket surgery.

Aren't a lot of professionals already glorified Markov Chains, though?

I'll either go with a humour answer an say, that

    a) no, professionals are capable of coming up with truly garbage random outputs

or the serious one is that

    b) no, MCs have preassigned output weights for given inputs and are not capable of handling data or deducing new weights on the fly. Same with LLMs.

Also, we have real hallucinations damnit.

that's also more expensive because of taxes

there are probably better solutions for cooling, they just don't wanna spend money with it
