Name one music program /plugin that everyone uses that wastes everyones time and effort like kontakt. Think about it for 30 seconds... Nothing comes to your mind and at this point you realize yeah RajuPalli is right, it is actually THE WORST

 

iLok...? Probably has a much larger install base than Kontakt and is very much worse. (Try installing the latest VSL freebie with the iLok / Vienna Assistant one-two punch...)

nicnts? Never made one for anything. I have my Kontakt libs in a single folder and use the file browser or quick-load. Zero effort, zero problems - ever.

If you insist on creating nicnts for your stuff, that's your problem.

You know Audioguydaz, I kinda thought the same, and the thread was interesting to me, as yeah, there are some challenges with more modern version of Kontakt and dealing with libraries if one is going the k'd route for sure, and it does require a little book learnin' and following instructions closely to keep things copacetic and whatnot ...

But like a lot of people, (I have legit and k'd Kontakt for different reasons), I pay close attention to @Fred Bloggs excellent work and tools in KLU 2.0 for macOS, and the aforementioned gentleman has also made an appearance there asking for a Win version etc.....

So not that this is definitive, as the trolling could go deeper... but I don't know.

Funny, I've made hours of great music with Kontakt, the opposite of a waste of time. Sounds like the problem is more your comprehension skills, based on what you've written. You coudla saved a lot of pixels by just saying 'IT'S TOO HARD!" instead of insisting that it sucks for the many people it clearly does NOT suck for.

I think the main problem the OP complains about is the file browser.NI team could at least have added a bookmark feature under the files tab for their customers to be able to find some instrument folder/directories quickly as one of the essential feature.It can be really frustrating for some customers who paid for Kontakt full version, just for the sake of using libraries that some non-considerate sample library developer not make for the Player version, to go through this torture.On behalf of all their customers I just want to say Fuck You to the UX team of NI handling the design of Kontakt

 

His problem isn't the file browser, he hasn't found it yet...
He's stuck on the library browser, painstakingly looking up and typing in ids one by one into some nicnt tool.

 

Even if you don't consider Quickload to be organizable bookmarks, which it is, there is literally a bookmarking feature within the file browser.

Also, libraries for Kontakt Player incur a licensing fee, some developers choose not to give NI a cut for the privilege of being a list with a picture. Luckily most of their customers have graduated past needing picture books.

 

Perfectly wrong, Kontakt gives more flexibility with sample modifications of developer libraries then most other custom dev players.

 

Obviously if any of these people actually knew what they were talking about, this thread wouldn't even exist.

 

kontakt is one of the best original plugins out there. i have been using it since version 4 and it has been my sucess tool for pop music
it has great effects, filters, convolution reverb support and so many libraries you can use.

ok the only thing i dislike is sometimes huge libraries load a bit slow. but kontakt is really good. what are you talking about ???

 

Have you read what I wrote? In this respect. In which one? I talked about possibility for third party developers to create their own libraries and protect them. Halion wasn't an "open" platform with centralized protection for third party libraries as Kontakt was from the moment of its birth. Halion became more or less open for this things relatively recently. And the people at Steiberg don't develop this buisness direction actively. Unlike NI which gains enormous (really, really enormous) money with it. Every commercial (protected) library which you can use in Kontakt player (even for free) brings hundreds and thousands dollars for them. Each one.

 

I could have continued reading where you said that Kontakt was for YEARS the only solution available to other developers. It wasn't even the only NI sampler/rompler style instrument at that time. So ok, that part is wrong too. Thanks for pointing it out.

 

I think User Interfaces must be designed to be intuitive.Normally a person would look for bookmarks or quick access tools in the file browser.Now, even if they have it ...I had not known it yet because I only studied the file explorer and libraries tab in the manual where I was expecting such a thing to be.And yes libraries for Kontakt Player incur a licensing fee which bigger sample library developers like 8dio can afford but they would decide not to and force people to buy kontak instead.Not everyone is an expert at the programming or DSP.I guess most of people using Kontakt libraries are only musicians

 

I am not going to comment on your bait of hours of great music but i am going to clear my statement: Hours of people making kontakt libraries that are unusable in 2024. It has to be atleast 100 000 hours wasted of developer time and effort. Some of the old libraries are pretty decent

 

I am going to maybe make AHK script that handles this (its only coding i know). Show me some love
