Can anyone recommend a good synth that excels at more deep atmospheric pads like the one in this track

this song is quite bad
synths that are good for pads: access virus,waldorf microq,korg triton,diva,hive,omnisphere,zebra

 

Roland JD 800 & JD 990 pads are always great.. try Roland Cloud for all types of Pads...they glue the sound in a very nice way

How about Steinberg Padshop? It will work outside of Cubase if you get a correct version.

 

Yeah not that fussed about plugins , looking for a physical synthesiser

Are you asking about the bandpass sweep, or what (ever) synth to use before the bandpass filter? Try to focus on the (built-in) bandpass envelope sweep and run pretty much any synth with it.

 

You can't go wrong with String Audio ALCHEMIST 2 and Dark Matter Bundle.

 

Give Arturia Polybrute a try. I like to use it for pads. A pad never needs to be static as besides a physical slider that can be used as a source for physical modulation the Morphe enables one to morph between two individual presets. Also just about any destination of control can be modulated by LFO or envelope. It's very nice to use.
