Hello. Was this a live cutting on set with a switcher or the editing is done afterwards in an NLE?

 

hello!

so, i had the main camera (Sony A7siii) in 60p in the pit, then my 1st assistant on a wide shot in rear(A7siii) , then we had 7 different people with iphones in different locations all in 24p. we captured the live performance of the song in realtime.
Then , me and the bassist did the edit in Davinci Resolve studio.
(by lining all shots up and manually splicing them together by hand on a 4k 60p timeline.)
afterwards i did the color grading and mastering.

* much more detail than the youtube delivery has lol :D , but that is to be expected

a lot of specific descisions made in the editing room ( and the color grading to a large degree)
were based on the musical context and the emotional connection.

so it is a one take recording in realtime

(eventually it would be nice to have a live cutting with switcher setup for sure!)

but, my next releases will be Tv series of a cooking show and a youtube channel of music education.

Man this is really well done, especially considering youre doing it on a budget. I edit video for work all day... hats off my friend. Phenomenal work.

To be perfectionist about music I just would turn the last ACEDF chord when screaming "Uauauau Auu Yeahh Yeahh" into a modal CEDFA "Yeahh Yeahh Uauauau Auu" to give it a jazzy feel, you know what I mean...

 

Ok nice. Since the editing was done afterwards having all the footage, something that I consider a problem , is that many cuts could have been just a few frames earlier. What do I mean by that? For example you have clips that show us the singer and then pan to the drummer or someone else etc. This is not something wrong. But your cut there ruins your decision . Because you cut only a few frames on the next subject. You could cut just before the movement, or after we focus on the next subject and we clearly see it. otherwise the cut seems wrong. I know that you might have tried to do this broom trick, where you pan the camera fast and cut to the next view but this trick involves motion blur. just my 2 cents. Otherwise , nice try. I insist that the direction was ok but the editing is a bit clumsy. All said I purpose to help and not to judge

 

Congrats for the amzing video.
I am not expert, but when I see 60fps video i don't like it. It seems artificial to me.

 

i would have to know what you are refferring to specifically to describe to you why exactly a certain thing was that particular way.
for example , there is a section where the camera is going to the drummer but tricks you and goes all the way to the guitarist in motion, then it sets up the shop like it going to deliver on the 2nd time but does it again! lol then finally goes to the drummer.

* so the specificity of the shots tell a story over diffent time periods not just instant gratification or only in considersation of a moment.

if you watch it 10 times you will discover something new each time.

i understand what you mean, just in this particular context of the motion element being so significant instead of the entire thing being blur i created a way to have the motion involved.
but, there are stregnths and weaknesses to everything! ( hopefully you got some enjoyment out of the 24p moments

 

If it is an artistic concept is ok. Of course I do!

 

Loved it. To be fair also because the song kick-asses beautifully.
As for the technicals... even without knowing much about video production I've seen a lot of v-clips and looks very good

I didn't even mind the """""sloppy""""" cuts with the type of music and live feel. But the next time I watch it with my analytical hat on, I will zero in on those without mercy ;) A glossy studio video wouldn't get away with it. I think it's a really good outcome.

 

Would you please write the lyrics of the song here as well? I usually have difficulty in understanding these lyrics.

I read the lyrics but I couldn't get what this song is about. Can you explain a little about the meaning of the song? Because metal songs are mostly looking for ways to allude to harsh truths.

In the first part of the song, we hear this sentence:
Living in a Masquerade
Running from mistakes I’ve made
But the damage is done
Can’t escape the monster I’ve become

What does Masquerade mean?
I know its literal meaning but why did the lyricist use this word?
Why someone has to behave in a way that hides his true feelings and selfness?
What mistakes has the singer done?
What damages has he done?
Why does he feel that he has become a monster? What do the monsters do?

And the meanings of all paragraphs...

Interesting, not what I expected at all.

It's all a bit out my musical wheelhouse and tastes but it a work completed and that counts for a great amount.

I don't understand the visual concept either and I would tend to agree with Producer but I can tell you worked really hard and on it and you are proud of you product. That's a good thing.
